Shield is on latest release and connected to 4K projector. Content viewed is 90% 1080p and 10% 2160p HDR tv/movie rips. I'm aware of several bugs but what is the current best practices using Shield 6.2, Kodi 17.6 (or SPMC 17.6a2) for best picture eg no banding, washed colours etc? I don't mind having to switch settings manually if needed. Thx
Set the Shield Settings to recommended which will be 4K and in either Kodi or SPMC set to 1080p 60hz and let auto resolution switching do the rest for true Colour space switching you will need to set Kodi/SPMC to 4K as well for BT2020

Don't you need to specifically select a BT2020 2160p mode rather than a BT709 2160p mode in advanced settings if you want to guarantee to watch 4K SDR or HDR 2020 content in the correct colourspace?  Or does the Shield always default to 2020 when you select a 2160p mode without selecting specifically a 2020 colourspace?
