Most of the plugin will work out without credentials, but if you want to view your playlists, favorites and channel subscriptions you will need to enter login credentials, and also if you want to view age restricted videos. But the Explore youtube section and the searching part of the plugin should be usable without login credentials.

Forgot to mention that you can unlink your youtube and google account just login to youtube and from the drop down in the top right corner choose account -> manage account -> Unlink YouTube and Google Accounts
