No, ALA does not rename the file. If I select a file "1254.png" located on my Desktop to a rom named "Mario" I'd like ALA to make a duplicate of (or just move) the image from my desktop and rename it to "Mario.png" and then place it in the thumbs directory.
As you say, I could do this myself, but when I'm renaming 1000+ files, it would be far easier for ALA to do this.
The functionality of "local image" doesn't change. I still want to be able to select a file from anywhere and have ALA read it. The additional benefit is storage in a single location. I'm not a python guy, but it seems shutil(src, dst) is exactly what you'd use. http://docs.python.org/library/shutil.html
