It make sense if you're using Android / Linux or those media player which most likely based on embedded linux core. NFS mightgave better noticable improvement over samba. But then DSPlayer is windows-only so I'm not sure about any major improvement if you goes NFS way.
I only used Hanewin in the past. Can't recommended others. And now I switched my server to Win10 x64 so samba is most logical way in my usage.
In the past only situation that Samba performs bad was when used Ubuntu-based distro as server. Samba on Ubuntu was much inferior to NFS. Not sure if it improved lately. Other linux distro gave much better results though.
