I encountered problems creating thumbnails for both my movie and TV series files. So I had to rename and fix their folders as follows:

For movies: Folder with movie name and year it was released - inside the folder, is the movie file itself.

For a series of movies: Folder with just the movie name, no year this time - inside the folder is a sub-folder with movie name and year released.
Ex. Main Folder: Star Wars
Sub-folder 1: Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 1999
Sub-folder 3: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 2005

For TV series: Folder with just the TV series name, no year - inside the folder is a sub-folder with season number.
Ex. Main Folder: Game of Thrones
Sub-folder 1: Season 1
Sub-folder 2: Season 2

After doing this, I was able to create the thumbnails with no problems at all
