Just to let everyone know, I've solved the problem...
If you point Kodi to an image folder that is outside it's directory, then it creates strange copies of the images.
Best is to create a holder inside the .Kodi folder. I named it Bckgrnds, and inside that named the folders again with subdirectories.
Haven't had a problem since then.
