Based on tip of LibreELEC.tv master (776b589, changelog) and tip of XBMC master (7b97a46, changelog) with the following modifications: Build Highlights:
  1. New firmware
  2. New 5.4.51 kernel
  3. RPi4 bootloader: New beta pieeprom-2020-07-16 and vl805-000138a1
  4. RPi4: HBR audio and passthrough support
  5. gcc: update to 10.1.0
  6. ffmpeg-4.3-Matrix-Alpha1 for RPi/RPi2/RPi4/Generic (RPi/RPi2 commits from newclock_4.3)
    Quote:Notice: RPi2 users may need to raise gpu_mem higher than 320 if experiencing HEVC playback issues (CMMALPool errors, crashes).

    It appears the latest kodi with ffmpeg-4.3 is using significantly more GPU memory than previous kodi/ffmpeg-4.2 versions.

    Higher resolution artwork may be a contributing factor, as GPU memory is temporarily used when displaying artwork which then isn't available during playback.

    I have the following higher-than-standard resolution artwork configured in advancedsettings.xml:

    and some 720p and 1080p HEVC playback fails with gpu_mem=320 and this latest kodi/ffmpeg-4.3 build (works fine with #0626).

    As a (hopefully) temporary fix, gpu_mem=380 is working OK with this new build (I did try gpu_mem=360 but even that isn't enough in every case).

    The issue is being investigated (need to determine if this is a kodi, ffmpeg-4.3, or HEVC issue - or some combination).
