Has this been fixed?

i don't think there is any plan (as of now) to change fonts or add new script support in the default fonts.  Unfortunately I don't think the addon skins advertise what scripts are supported so you pretty much have to experiment.   Alternatively, if you have your own ttf font with the scripts you need you might try to replace the Arial font in default Kodi, but be warned that Kodi uses the bounding box of the font glyphs for sizing the font, so if yours differs from the default Arial you will probably find text isn't fitting in place well.  Especially when the script uses many ascenders / descenders.
