A true hide listened filter, applied across all the node levels, would have to be a core design thing. You could make yourself smart playlists or custom nodes that filter on play count or last played date.
A complete different approach would be to use an app like Yatse to browse and control playback of your music library. Yatse has some great smart filtering features including source filtering common across all screens , and most significantly for your question a hide listened facility. It also means you can listen with the TV off (but obviously don't have to).
