It could be a bios setting, something with a fast boot option enabled or something like that. My Plextor SSD doesn't have a light on it so I can't check what a different setting in the bios has for effect on the msata bus. I can imagine that a fast boot setting can set continue power on the msata bus so that there can be a faster response from ssd. But this is only an assumption as I can't see what one or the other setting will result in. You on the other hand, can check that easily by watching the led's (there should be two on it?), when changing bios settings.

Fastboot itself is just a menu here with options underneath, all disabled.

i cant figure it out. I´ve sent a support mail to intel and see what they say about. Thx for trying! If you think of anything that might help ill be more than happy to take advice!

If you clear the bios with the yellow jumper (just move it over one pin for a second then move it back) you can see if a setting is causing it.

If you have any other devices with msata you could swap test it over and see if the behavior is replicated; it could just be a pilot light. Either way - a single led isn't going to be generating any significant amount of heat.

The drive is generating the heat, the blue led is on, but its the drive that heats up... not untouchable hot, but still warm.

I tried resetting the bios within the software. no dice. Not only remove it but move it over one pin. and then setting it back? Am i suppost to look for something after that inside the bios or just check if it still lights up?

yeah move then back again, clears all bios settings. Then see if you still have the light.

That were my bios settings also, but again, I don't have any led's on my mSSD. I think you should wait for Intel to give an answer, but maybe you can send Adata an email also?
I assume you put the drive in the top micro connector? And yes, of-course you did, but for the possibility you didn't Wink

Edit: Hold the phone, I see a difference in the settings. In your power screen, on the right hand side, you have 2 items enabled that I don't have.
Try disabling S3 state indicator and PCIe ASPM support.

Thank you for email and interest in Akasa's NUC cases.

Unfortunately we do not have a NUC case for your D33217CK thunderbolt NUC board.

If we can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to give us a message.

And then there is this solution, a fanless design with a backup fan for overheating protection, and its cheap.
