In that case your install got screwed, probably it was installing the update for artutils addon when you exited Kodi or you got an incomplete download from the repo. Try to manually install artutils:

The indicators were missing for the single/wide box layouts. Just added them. Available in next update.

I told you this in other post: Make sure that the addon actually provides a fanart.jpg in it's addon folder on disk.
If you want more control over the images displayed, you shoud consider switching to super favourites.

As I told you, they have fanart.jpg but still the background is black when standing on them.

Sometimes they are missing, sometimes after pressing they are disappearing again. something isn't stable about them.

This should be working, at least on my setup with most recent updates it works.

Even with your update yesterday, it's still happening for me. It's a bit inconsistent: sometimes the widget updates properly (for tv series, the next episode widget moves correctly to the next episode; for movies the recently added widget removes the watched item); sometimes the movie widget still shows the item but with a watched indicator; sometimes there is no update. There are no messages in the log whatsoever during this action -- but I don't have debug turned on. I check the libraries in each case and in the library the episode or movie shows as 'watched'.

It seems like a strange timing issue -- this used to happen a little in a previous release (some time back) but it did get better and now seems to be a problem again. I noticed that there seems to be no option to force refresh on these widgets -- perhaps that might help?

Not a skin issue, that addon is not following Kodi's for the listings.

This is how he build the list. Does it explain why the 'date_time' doesn't show also in the widget items tags?

Yes, because it's setting the label manually. Sorry, I won't support this one. I can't support every use case.
Also be aware that you're on a thin line here asking support here for an addon that is most probably banned.

I've raised this previously, but I'll nag ;-). I still don't think that the options of 'show watched items in recently added lists' and 'show watched items in widgets' provide enough flexibility in configuring whether or not watched items show in various views/widgets. For me the issue is in widgets. With only a global option for showing watched items I can't get the behaviour I want in the widgets. In particular, and this might just be me, I can't get a recently added widget that does not show watched items and a random widget that shows watched items. I think you need to return to the previous behaviour where 'recently added' style widgets do not contain watched items and other widgets do; or added two options for including watched items in the skin helper service widgets: one option for 'recent' widgets and one option for all other widgets; or make the option apply on a widget by widget basis in the shortcut configurations similar to the options for tags or layout.

Next update of SkinHelper Widgets addon will contain a setting to hide the watched items from recent listings only.
