Maybe I know what's happening. With XBMC 12 (frodo) there are some changes on how the thumbnails cache are treated, so the remote app checking the XBMC version does different stuff for eden or for frodo. But maybe alpha1 is a bit old, so while there is yet the old thumbnail cache system in XBMC, the remote app is trying to use the new system. Updating xbmc frodo alpha1 (if applicable) to one more recent version should solve your issue.
