DTS passthrough on Ouya - not currently supported
#31
Quote:Thanks for the note - DTS passthrough is not currently supported on OUYA, though we are evaluating support for this and other multichannel audio decoding solutions for future release on OUYA. Your feedback ensures that our gamers' voices are heard, so we'll certainly take it into consideration as we chart our roadmap.

Best,

OUYA

So its not even possible for the XBMC team to force DTS and AC3 pass-through?
Would donate 50$ Big Grin

Ah thank you Ned Scott
Quote:IIRC, things just need to be "hooked up" in software before we're able to access it. I think it's planned, but just lower on the priority list since they're scrambling to get ready for the retail launch. Once it's working on the OS side, XBMC should be able to use it. I think. We actually got to ask them in person about passthrough, but that was a couple of months ago (and we asked them lots of questions Big Grin ).

please keep us up do date Smile

I remember reading in one of Ouya's initial post on Kickstarter that they would be supporting mutichannel but I guess you could condider stereo as multichanne. It resembles in someways what they did in their first videos, it showed Ouya playing Shadowgun, Dead Trigger, etc but you do not see them in the Ouya store. When I asked about that in an other forum I was told that Ouya never promised to have those games. I checked the lititure and they were correct but by using those games in a video promo was definitely misleading.
Nothing left in my right brain, Nothing right in my left brain :-P

The Tegra 3 does not support DTS afaik but if you've got your Ouya connected to your tv via a surround system (like i will have when mine arrives) you should be able to enable passthough to the amp and it will handle the decoding for you (when/if the ouya team enables it) - so keep on asking them to activate it in the next firmware Big Grin

Well, if anyone's in the testing mood, a poster on ouyaforum.com found a potential DTS/Dolby Digital workaround:

Quote:Now comes the weird part:
When I connect the Ouya via HDMI directly to the receiver all I get is loud noise when a DTS or Dolby clip is played. This is pretty much what everyone else reported so far. But when I connect my Ouya to the TV and enable ARC to the receiver I get working Dolby and DTS passthrough.

Any devs wish to comment on how routing the Ouya first through your TV seems to enable DTS/Dolby passthrough (even though it doesn't work direct to the receiver and the option is not available in the XBMC menu)??

I'm curious from a technical perspective.

I tried passtrough audio with arc but it only sends PCM 2.0 . If I set hdmi or optical in xbmc audio settings all I get is load white noises (dts and dd files). So it's gotta stay on analog.

I really hope passtrough audio is enable in a near future because without it ouya is a useless xbmc box

I don't know but it is dated 29 May and it's only 1 june so perhaps passthrough is recently added to ouya?

Hi All

Just to throw some progress into this, I was playing around last night to see what was happening to cause the audio not to be passed through.

I discovered that if I started a Movie, then disconnected the HDMI into my TV and plugged it back in I would get DD/DTS.

See my post over on Ouya Forum

OuyaForum

The solution for me was to adjust the settings on my Onkyo Amp

Go into Settings > Hardware Setup > HDMI >
Turn Off HDMI Control RIHD
This will now show an option called Audio TV Out (This passes audio to the TV when you don't want to use your speakers)

For some reason turning this on stops the TV from confusing the Ouya as to what type of audio to passthrough.

My setup is OUYA >>> HDMI >>> Onkyo Amp >>> HDMI >>> Samsung LE40R88 TV

I can confirm that this works on my Onkyo SR508 to Samsung UN55C8000 as well (OUYA version 1.0.4).

Thank you for figuring this out...was a deal breaker till now for XBMC on OUYA.

Hi it was not. unfortunately I am now selling my Ouya so I won't be able to do any more tests. I have decided to do this the proper way with an HTPC.

Bummer.

It sounded like you had multichannel working.

Was crashing the issue?
