This sounds kinda iffy, even if coming from a tech giant like MS. Xbox One S is the most affordable UHD BD player to date, but until full HD audio bitstreaming is there, it's a hobbled 4K player.

I didn't see anything about Dolby Vision. I only saw comments about audio bitstreaming.

I agree it's iffy, but they (via Albert Pennello) basically claim it was always going to be added, they just had other priorities first (e.g. gaming features, HDR, etc). I'm paraphrasing from what I've read.

More at the neogaf link where Albert himself has been replying to certain posts.

Quote:Digital Foundry: We understand you've opted for HDR 10 support rather than (or in addition to) Dolby Vision. What's the reasoning for this? Was it a factor of what was already built into the AMD media block?

Albert Penello: HDR10 is the standard HDR format for the UHD Blu-ray spec, and our understanding is that the majority of consumer TV sets will support HDR10, with Dolby Vision as an option. Dolby Vision looks to be a great technology and we have discussions with Dolby often.

I don't saw mentioned anywhere if it support Youtube 4k/60p.
I think not, even Shield supported only 4k/30p from start and on last firmware 4k/60p.
Also, limited (no) information about Cinavia on USB. Samsung is notorious for it's ,,gifts" on firmware update.

Not sure it could be considered hobbled if it will still output as PCM? More than good enough for a 5.1 surround setup.

Just meant if you're going for best PQ (4K and HDR), would want best accompanying audio as well (ATMOS and X).

Any news on the file formats it supports? Doesn't seem to be x265 HEVC so ruling out the playback of 4k x265 10bit and 1080p x265 10bit Sad

this post from last year shows xbox one already has HEVC support. what makes you think the S hasn't?
