Ok I just installed the newest Milhouse Build #0627, 27-Jun-2014. I was really hoping it would fix a certain issue but it did not. Before I was running the latest Openelec Official 4.0.6. My issue is the following. I have a DVD ISO of Power 90 which doesn't play properly. It does play back properly on a PC version of XBMC so it seems to be only present on the Raspberry Pi. Anyways once you make your selection from the main menu another menu comes up asking if you want music on or off. No matter what is selected from here on out that menu stays up but the audio of the DVD continues to play. This DVD ISO used to work on older versions of Openelec when DVDPlayer was first integrated into it but I didn't use it then because of the stuttering. I'm wondering if there is some sort of way to force the DVD ISO to play properly. Is this a type of DVD menu structure that wasn't tested on any of the newer builds that contain DVDPlayer? Anyone have any ideas on this? Oh and yes I do have a license for Mpeg2 in my config.txt. I have lots of TV recordings in that format which play back just fine. It was the first thing I checked because the behavior on playback seems to be similar to what you would experience if the mpeg2 license wasn't installed. Thanks.

Edit: I did some more troubleshooting and it seems that it is DVDPlayer. Even when using DVDPlayer for mpeg2 files I get no video but audio. DVDPlayer does work for x264 mkv files I have. It really seems like DVDPlayer doesn't know about my mpeg2 license but OMXPlayer does. Weird.

Ok I am following up with my previous post. I think I found a bug. I started with a clean slate. I wiped my card and went back to the official version 4.0.6. I knew at sometime DVDPlayer was working. And sure enough it worked like a charm with a clean slate. That is until I tried playing the Power 90 DVD with the second menu. Once I played that DVD iso the problem came right back and I could no longer play ANY mpeg2 file with DVDPlayer. Somehow that type of DVD is breaking DVDPlayer. Any ideas? Oh and it seems that the ONLY way to get DVDPlayer working again is to start all over gain with formatted SD Card and fresh install and NOT play that DVD iso. Otherwise it works fine. For some reason attempting that particular DVD iso breaks it bad enough that it never works again (no video just audio) on any mpeg2 file. Even if I reboot and even if I re-install the same version or different version of Openelec. Kinda annoying I guess because I wonder if I have any other DVD iso files that can break DVDPlayer like that again. It's not fun having to wipe my Openelec install like that.

BTW since this is happening on the official version where is the right place to report this? I assume the only reason it also happens in the Milhouse Builds is because they are probably based off whatever is also in the offical 4.0.6 build.

Hello guys, I have some questions:

1) In previous releases (in part 2 of this thread) there was a comment about audio channels.
"no_resample_audio is now a default, and hdmi_stream_channels is switched based on audio content. For the time being when using passthrough, 2.0 speaker layout should continue to be used (you will still get 5.1 with AC3/DTS)."

Is this still true for the latest releases?

2) It's possible to decode Dolby TrueHD on the PI. Passthrough is impossible, but PCM is possible. How to choose software decode of Dolby TrueHD (5.1) over passthrough of normal Dolby (nonHD). I would like to try this.

3) Will the software decode work with channels 2.0 but output at 5.1? I mean this in connection with question 1, because 2.0 is/was needed for passthrough.

There are tool that can edit a DVD ISO, and remove the main feature (or most of it), leaving the initial menus in place. I've used sample files like this to debug issues with DVD menus, but I'm not sure of the exact tools used.

It's generally considered legal to upload sample files for debugging purposes if the majority of the content has been removed.

I can't figure out a good way to upload my video since it is a DVD ISO. I don't know how I could provide this so you can reproduce it without violating copyright laws. :-(

Edit: Just saw your post popcornmix. I will try and find a tool to remove most of the content and see if I can make it work. Problem is I can tell that the DVD is playing parts of the VOB files at certain markers when you select a workout on the main menu. There aren't different VOB files for each workout on the DVD. I will see what I can find.

Edit # 2: Ok I used DVDShrink and replaced all the videos with a still picture. The menus are still intact which is what I wanted. I couldn't reuse the reauthor mode because I needed the menu structure intact. This means the final ISO is still 270MB in size because of the way the menu is picking the features. There are time markers in the VOB files I suppose so the main features need to be the same length as they were originally. There are some actual DVD menu editors out there. I have used them in the past to remove stuff from dvds. If I can upload a 270 MB file I can certainly do that since the actual video portion of the DVD iso has been replaced with a still image. I am going to test this and see if the problem still occurs with this newly created image. Let me know if 270MB is too big.

I have verified that my modified DVD ISO has the same behavior. Though on one try it seemed to play it, however when playing mpeg2 content (another DVD ISO that usually works fine) with DVDPlayer after that the video played for a little bit and then went black on me and then after that mpeg2 videos would be audio only (no video) when playing with DVDPlayer. This only happens after attempting to play that DVD ISO though. I can't get the problem to reproduce without playing that DVD ISO. All content plays fine with DVDPlayer up until I play that file. Also I am noticing that I get the resume option when DVDPlayer is working fine. I tried using OMXPlayer to resume and have found the OMXPlayer has much better quality than DVDPlayer for DVD ISOs. DVDPlayer isn't near as smooth and actually appears to be blurry as well. Its as if the de-interlacing isn't working very well with DVDPlayer. I can see this has been discussed previously though. I wish there was some way to fix the menu handling capability of OMXPlayer.

What is the best way to upload this 270MB modified DVD ISO that I have?

As it happens, I just found a copy of "Power 90" DVD ISO (Disc 1 & 2) in my "Things to put off until tomorrow" drawer, and I can reproduce some - but not all - of the above.

1. If I start the Disc1 ISO (using dvdplayer), I can select a scene from the main menu (eg. "Sweat!", "Sculpt!" or "Ab Ripper 100"), choose music on/off, and the scene plays correctly with both video and audio. Great!
   
2. While the scene is playing, in order to return to the main menu I bring up the OSD and choose the "disc menu" icon (the disc shaped icon, far right) at which point the video freezes and the audio (but not video) from the main menu will play - the main menu itself does not appear.
   
3. Even though the main menu isn't currently visible, the menu navigation is working as scene selection is possible by pressing "Enter" blindly on the remote - this leads to the music on/off menu appearing, and selecting the "Back" option at this point will result in the main menu finally appearing
   
4. If I now select to play another scene, the music menu appears (as expected) and after selecting "On" (or "Off"), the scene will play but only audio is heard, the display continues to show a static music menu. Bringing up the OSD at this point allows me to return to the main menu, which is now displayed correctly (menu appears immediately, along with menu audio).
   
5. No further scene videos will now play, only audio will be heard.
   
6. Stopping the ISO and resuming playback allows a scene to play normally, until the user navigates past the music menu, after which scene video is broken.
   

So I'm unable to reproduce your issue that requires the SD card to be wiped and restored (thankfully!)

However there is a problem with video playback of this ISO once the user has made a selection (other than "Back") at the music menu.

For example, there is a scene, "About the supplements", that doesn't include the music menu. This scene can be played repeatedly, and the main menu will always appear when selecting the OSD disc menu icon. It's only once a selection has been made at the music menu that video for subsequent scene selections (including the formerly working "About the supplements" scene) stops working. It's as if dvdplayer has become confused about whether it's showing a menu or not, once the users navigates through the music menu.

When using omxplayer, the only problem is that the music menu doesn't appear at all. After selecting a scene, the display will appear to freeze as this is when the music menu would appear, and by clicking "Enter" blindly on the remote, the music "off" option can be selected and then the selected scene will play normally. Returning to the main menu via the OSD is not a problem. Playing subsequent scenes is also not a problem, it's just the music menu which is broken, which may also explain why it's possible to play more than one scene.

This ISO when played on OE x86 v4.0.5 (Revo 3700) plays absolutely fine, so it seems to be an R-Pi specific issue.

MilhouseVH, when I force-disable CEC on your builds I can no longer play files via NFS. Also an error pops up on every boot. A selfmade newclock3/openelec-master build doesn't have this issue.

Do you use a specific SHA-ID of libnfs? For me the build always fails when I try to build xbmc against libnfs master.
