the only thing is that for xbmc to recognize a different disc than the one you put in before ( example:  first i put a data disc in the pc dvd player and then i wanted to play a dvd movie) you have to restart xbmc.. but thats a thing i can live with   :d  :d  :d  :d

i have a lg instead of the original dvd player , i have done the full mod finding de poins and solderings to the yellow wires.

in the xbmp it works great , so if in the xbmc don`t work the problems is in the way the xbmc uses the dvd ,perhaps the easier way may be an option that disables the xbmc to see if there is a cd o dvd inside.

i haven`t test the wire trick yet

you don't have to restart xbmc - just go back up one directory level to iso9660/udf and go back down again. even though the filename is wrong, it actually finds and plays the new file. obviously, if you have more than one file in the second disc, you got a little problem...

you should try the wire trick definetly

maybe you can  report it as a bug for xbmc so that maybe it could be fixed in the 1.0 final release.

but i think that when you hotwired those pins.. it will work flawlessly

you're right but the main thing is that i burn all my divx files to dvdr so that 5 movies can fit on 1 disc.

so best solution for this time is just a reboot for peeps with more than one file on a cd/dvd. who want to swap discs in the curent xbmc session..

but i must say again; the wire trick is great

i've got some problem with this drive....

evox says the correct status of the drive (busy, reading ecc..)
but xbmc always says busy (when i eject the drive) and empty, even if there's a cd in the drive.

have you got some suggestion?

since i've bought a premodded samsung 616t, can anybody post how to connect pins when some of them are already connected to the modded drive? (i need an explanation keeping like subject the other right of the yellow cable, the one connected to the mainboard)

i think the problem is the way it access to the iso or udf mode , because when i burn the recopilations of divx in dvd in nero using the option force compatibility with xbox it works.
if the problem were that no one dvd can`t be player the wire trik may be the solution , but it see the cd o dvd burn using this option.

i've done the wire trick, all working fine with it.
so i tried to connect all cable from yellow wire to my actual dvdrom... and i burned it :x (wrong side lol)

i have a new one i'll try the "software" method by burning it like that.

i found it very interesting since i thought the new xbmc code after 3-9-2004 starts to check for drive status: drive must be closed and disc must be detected. don't see how xbox compatible dvd burn can make the drive "closed," although i can see how it makes the disc "detected."

it may be that in your case the tray-in signal floats to "true." what is the drive status in system info?

if you burn with nero & the xbox compatible format,
xbmc can read the disc in udf mode without problem ! Smile
even if it's written "open" near "dvd-rom"
just use the path udf: in the config file.

if this is true, then this whole thing about newer version of xbmc not being able to read pc dvdrom is really not a "feature."

so, let me ask again, can the devs address this issue?

there was a bug that using the separate shares (udf: and iso9660:// in xboxmedaicenter.xml) for a iso/udf disc didn't worked. maybe a later builds could solve someones problems ? Huh

btw, i have also added an option to xboxmediacenter.xml to choose the preferred filesystem for iso/udf discs when autodetecting. (if autodetect works Smile )

==> works fine with this release, without the yellow cable trick.

no hardware change, just a config. change and it's workings now \o/

just plug your pc dvdrom, and use iso9660 in the configuration file.
