This is really cool, I was wondering if anyone has been able to get addons such as p2p-streams working with this. I'd love to b able to voice command live matches/sports channels.

@diesel_, the most you can currently do is open an addon by voice. There is no way currently to navigate them, though, besides saying the remote commands (up, down, left, right, select, etc).
Since all addons are completely different and there is no standard layout for them, there probably won't ever be generic addon support. It would be possible to add custom commands to directly support the popular addons, but maintaining that would be the opposite of fun..
I'm still mulling over how this could potentially be done without it turning into a giant monster.. so far I haven't come up with anything good, though. Probably something that the users could maintain (extensions, etc) would end up being best, but that'd be a little ways off since I need to get a few other core things sorted out first.

@jingai, I just set my whole library as watched, and will then add a few movies and see if that can be a simplified way to get Alexa to respond to new "unwatched" movies. No extra work would be needed on your end

Ok, this might be a dumb question. I see that you have updated a few things. To apply this update, do we follow all the sames steps as we did to get everythhing up and running? or is there a more simplified way? Sorry for the dumb question.

Update the Intents and Utterances on the web interface for the skill. Then pull down the code changes and re-deploy.

Sorry, me again. The checklist:
1) All possible location settings are set to US east coast
2) Test commands work from the dashboard
3) My Alexa history is definitely seeing me use the word 'kodi' as my trigger word
4) The Kodi skill is definitely added to my Alexa app
5) I unplugged the dot for ten seconds and plugged it back in
And I'm back with the same errors, "I'm not quite sure how to help you with that"
It worked for a bit last time when I turned the dot off and on again like you suggested, but then the next day it was back to this, and it's been like it since.

3. Do you have any other Skills or Smart Home devices that you have also called Kodi or start with Kodi? Any old versions of the skill still lingering?
4. You mentioned you have removed the Skill and started again. Did you disable the Skill in your Alexa app? If not try that and then enable it again, perhaps try adding something to the Skill name (not the invocation name) like a version number. Then if the name changes in your Alexa app you can be sure that it is picking up the changes.
When you get the "I'm not quite sure" message, what is the full command you are saying?
When testing I usually stick to "Alexa, ask Kodi to play a random movie" or "Alexa, ask Kodi if there any new episodes of The Simpsons" (or whatever TV show you have in your library that you know has unwatched episodes of)
(I am in the UK and use the UK settings with my UK Amazon account with no issue.)

1) The AWS console - The developer console: language is US English, configuration is set to North America - The Alexa app my location is set to Virginia Beach, North Virginia

Russco, as I have mentioned before, if you change kodi to something like living room, or media center do you still have your issue? Also, are you spelling kodi as "kodi" or "cody". I think alexa is getting confused.... and trying to look for cody, not kodi.... just a suggestion.

Yeah I thought it could have been that, but it's definitely recognising what I say as 'kodi', according to the logs in my Alexa app. And that's the name of the skill. I even checked it for caps, but it's hearing 'kodi' with a lower case k, which is correct.

@jingai, thank you for letting my know how to update it, went well. I can now open addons from Alexa. I was wondering if it would be possible to add an intent to open advanced launchers? I use the addon advanced launcher to open .ink and a few others to open netflix and amazon video in Windows media center. I can change the names of the launchers to fit what is needed. I dont understand the code part of this addon but if possible to say for example "Alexa ask kodi to launch <advanced launcher (Live TV)> then it would open that launcher? All the launchers are stored under the default directory. Or if eaiser I can add the launchers as favorites? Thanks again for this epic addon!

Favorites are not yet supported, and controlling addons is honestly a bigger problem to solve than it seems on the surface. See my response to a similar query above.
Basically, I do want to get this figured out, but doing it in a generic fashion (as opposed to 'hacks' to support specific addons as people request them) is going to require some thought.
Before I go down that road, I have some other code cleanup and frameworks I'd like to get into place for some other features that I and my family specifically want.
I want addon control too, so it will happen.. it's just a matter of priorities and limited time to work on it. Something like this has the potential to make the code very unwieldy (more so than it already is), so no matter what I need to clean up some things first.
