Android Frame skipping on Shield ... Did Matrix do this?
#61
Has anything been looked into regarding this issue at all? A log was provided here by someone but there seems to have been no follow up. Currently still using 18.9 because of this issue.

I'm having the same frame skipping problems with any audio (and also don't use local media/content). On 18.9 I don't have this problem.

HDR is amazing and 1080 is fantastic.

The problem is with DV. It is starting smoothly and trigger DV icon and suddenly starting to stutter and give a fixed screen with subtitle running for a seconds . This happed with me alot only with DV Mp4 contents.

The problem is from Kodi itself, why?
DV is running with out any problem with native Netflix app. Also running with out any problems with Plex player.

Any one with the same issue?

Shield pro 2019 and Kodi 19. LG CX screen.

Thanks
This is a known problem with DV on Kodi, not related to this one.

Looking for a way around this issue as it is starting to wreck my enjoyment of movies. Before I revert back to 18.9, I'm wondering if this does what I think it does. If so, has anyone tried it? Is VLC the best option?

I just bought an NVidiaShield Pro and Installed Kodi 19.1. Coming from an Apple TV 4K, the whole point for me was to be able to use passthrough audio that the ATV doesn't support.
I am experiencing frame skipping / stuttering as well when I use the passthrough option.
I have the shield set to change resolution to match to frequency of the movie, but it's definetly not playing correctly.

I played a bit with various options and the following seem to fix the problems (or improves significantly), but each have their drawbacks:
- Disable passthrough option -> This seem to fix the problem but obviously losing audio support.
- Sync Playback to Display -> Same as above fixes the skipping of frame but losing Atmos / DTS-X

Now I tried to change this option:
- Passthrough output device -> I set this one to "AudioTrack (RAW), Android IEC packer" instead of the recommended "AudioTrack (IEC), Kosi IEC packer" default option.

-> This seems to fix the issue with frame skipping and maintains the passthrough !
However when this option is activated if I download a subtitle from opensubtitle and select it, I lose the sound completely... So with this option I can't have subtitles anymore.

I hope this helps to investigate the issue. The frame skipping issue seems to be related to the passthrough options from what I can see...

I've moved to Plax due to this issue. Doesn't loom anywhere near as pretty, but it least it just works.

Was also amazed at just how easy Plex was to add libraries etc.... Kodi is seemingly so far behind. All it appears to have going for it, is it's looks :-(

Well Plex has other issues. Doesn't support Dolby Vision properly and transcodes for no reason.
I reverted to Kodi 18.9 (+PlexConnect) and it is much better. No more issue, and as far as I can see there is no major difference or feature missing.
So probably worth waiting a few more releases that 19.x becomes stable and all the bugs / issues with the passthrough / frame skipping are fixed.

Yes problem is, the frame skipping issue has been there for months but there is no github issue raised anymore. This thread is the only voice about the issue and as far as I can tell no one is actively looking into how to fix it as there's been little comment from mods or devs here? So at this rate we'll be on 18.9 for quite some time.

@Hitcher Would it be possible to have the kodi team look at this issue ? It seems like a major regression between 18.9 and 19.1. I provided some additional info from my testing above, and some people have provided logs.
Thank you. Happy to assist with the testing / logs if needed (I am new to Kodi, so might need some guidance on how to help tracking this problem down).

I noticed two issues once I updated to Matrix that have never ever happened in over a decade of using Kodi.

1. Subwoofer channel cuts in and out on high resolution files

2. Source too slow error appears when playing high resolution files

I have the source too slow notification as well on leila (18.9) using KodiPlexConnect on some high res movies. But the movie seems to play fine...

I went back to 18.9, and everything works perfectly... HDR, Dolby Vision, 4K, Atmos, DTS-X etc...
Not sure I will ever upgrade to 19.1, I don't see any benefits at the moments apart from getting new bugs..

ok, could you please explain to me, how to go back to 18.9? I don't like how to do it, dok, could you please explain to me, how to go back to 18.9? I don't know how to do it, and if it goes the 4k,hdr,dolby atmosdtsx, dts hd, etc, I see no reason why I stay in 19.1, which only brings me image and audio jumps
