dose the amazon fire tv support H.265?

Both support H.265 as both rely on Amlogic's S802 chip. If you're going to get a S802-based box now, Minix's X8 is probably a better bet due to better firmware support. If H.265 isn't a must, then I'd either get a Fire TV if you need a box now, or wait for Google's Android TV boxes expected later this year.

For the record, s802 does not support h265, only s812/s805 does.
And XBMC does not support h265 on amlogic, yet.
