I feel really guilty for even mentioning that PR that would've stayed under the radar until it is ready to be discussed, but oh well I expected more of kodi users.
@Leech guy they have said many times the discussion will come after team kodi decides to merge or not, not after it is merged. Stop trying make up a conspiracy theory. The idea is if team decides not to merge then there is no reason for any discussions, if it was decided to be merged then a public discussion will be held in order to bring up points that did not occur to team members while making the decision.
And let's stop calling it "user tracking" as it doesn't have any way of being tied up to a user, if you understand the code you can clearly see that, which is a bit different than what other addons do.
I also want to highlight the difference between a legally registered organization (foundation) with clearly defined staff and a privacy statement "tracking" users through a hashed MAC (you can even see in the PR some comments about tying it to CPU serial which is unfortunately not possible on every platform), and between a random developer sneaking the tracking code without any privacy or encryption into his addon (I am not talking about rob, am sure a lot of addons are doing this specially the banned ones).
When the subject is decided, I am sure the team will release along the discussion a better technical details about how this "tracking" is done, and people will see how hard it is to actually identify the user (not the installation), but for now you can look up the page linked above from Libreelec statement.
Edit: I love also the fact that the team member who was actually suggesting to hold the public discussion and listen to the community in that PR is the same member that is being bashed and painted black here by saying he does not care about the community.
