So i switched to portable mode so that i could use xbmc the same on both windows user profiles, this meant i needed to change all my settings again.
I've now added a movie source with imdb as the movie information addon enabled it and it's not working well at all.
Baring in mind before i switched to portable mode the movie info was working and there was only 1 film out of over 200 which i couldn't find info for after a manual search. ( that being "The Room" no suprise there as it was dubbed the worst film ever haha )

Now the problems are:
1.many popular movies come up with the wrong films:
for example "The cat returns" comes up with "the mummy returns"? "pans labyrinth" comes up with "labyrinth". when i've done a manual search i cannot find the films. despite them being on imdb website exactly as my files are named and i manual search with and without the film year as it is displayed on imdb with no different results.

2. many films display the name of the film in its original language:
for example i have roughly 8 studio ghibli films which when they are scraped and added to the library they come up with there original names rather than their English names (how the files are named). a manual search doesn't come up with the english titles despite them being on imdb exactly how i've named the files. I must note here that this happens with every single foreign film i have. if not the original name it comes up with the wrong film ex. "oldboy" displays as "oldboys".

these problems seem very strange to me as i know that every file has correct naming convention "Film title [year of release as on imdb]" and the scraper always chooses a less popular films over the real film and fails to find the real film.

i'm running Current Stable Release: 10.1 “Dharma” from http://xbmc.org/download/
with confluence skin
NOTE: themoviedb is also enabled. however movie info always says searching imdb.

anyone got any ideas?
bare in mind i'm an xbmc noob.

Please post a debug log while you are doing a manual refresh of a movie from movie info panel.

The problem is that it's scraping akas.imdb.com which gives alternate results and the original language titles.
i followed advice of a previous thread:

"Mine was in spanish. i fixed this. Open menu on folder for films (non library mode) in my case it was action. Goto set content. Select imdb from movies tab. Goto settings at the bottom. It will say akas.imdb.com I removed the akas so it looked like imdb.com

Now its scraping back in english again."

but this did not help because it does not display the website that it scrapes from, on the settings the only relevent setting is "prefered title langauge from" I've tried both relevent options of "Keep original" and "usa/international" they have no difference in the prblem.
so it looks like this may be a hidden option within portable mode?
Is there a way i can make it scrape imdb rather than akas imdb?

The movie, Pan's Labyrinth gets lilsted on manual search, but only in it's original title: El laberinto del fauno

However, if you choose 'USA/International' title in IMDb scraper settings, then the movie title will get scraped as 'Pan's Labyrinth'.

nope it doesn't unless you have the same problem as me telling me i'm wrong and that i was mistaken is useless. i wrote about that international/usa doesn't make a difference which i have just checked again and it still doesn't work.

do you have the same xbmc releae as me and in portable mode too?

Well It is only since i changed to portable mode that it scrapes to Akas.imdb rather than imdb it must be linked. On my first install i chose the same settings (Defaults) to start with and the same on portable has given me different results. the default for a standard installation is not akas.

I've changed the settings the only way i've found you can (i've come across two routes but they end in the same place. right click source click set content click settings. or click system, addons, enable addons, movie info, imdb, configure.)

this problem is starting to frustrate me as i've had xbmc a month now and i've literaly spent days setting it up so that it is anyway functional. unfortunatly xbmc's features are far from perfect it's a shame no other player has the same features.
