Mediaportal is my backend of choice. It works pretty well, better with the new Eden PVR builds. I had it working all on one machine, it does need a little horsepower though. I tried it on an Atom and quickly pegged the CPU with only one recording (and that was coming from a HD Homerun).
Was the ccam your only issue?

Thanks again for your responses.
One more question. I am using on board graphics as it's a mini-itx mobo, and I only have 1 pci-e slot (which is taken up by the dvb-s2 tuner). Do I need to install any specific drivers on Xubuntu for the graphics? Or will the stock ones suffice for playing HD channels? Or should I change up to a micro-atx board and install a dedicated graphics card?
Going to have a play this afternoon and hopefully get up to speed....I'm sure there will be more questions fired you way.
USB-CEC is a must buy once I get it all working :-)

in most cases (X)ubuntu runs out of the box .. post your specs (btw with that minimal system Win7 wouldnt make fun) - for HD playing graphics card hardware acceleration support is necessary ...

WOW! I finally have tvheadend setup and XBMC sees the channels....and fta seem to work great (inc HD)
Now for some more help pleeeaaassseee
1. I would like to get epg populated, I'm assuming my only option is radio times, but not sure how. Please could someone help.
2. I would still like to get my paytv working, but really dont have a clue about capmt connections, and camd. I have cccam setup on my vu plus (dreambox equiv) and I have a dreambox which shares the card, to check it works.
Oops. Sorry should have read the rules. Please ignore this question.
Please help if you can
Thanks

Not sure how much can be talked about, but I think TVHeadend supports the Newcamd protocol, might be worth looking down that route.
As I said, we can't exactly talk about these things on here so don't expect too much help or guidance directly!

indeed, it's not the same, but it's still not legal, even if you pay for it. at least here in europe. and using dvdcss migth be illegal here too.
well, to be honest, I don't really care. this part of the forum is dedicated to PVR development, and if there's something that might not be legal, then it just doesn't belong here. use whatever forum you like to discuss those things, just don't do it here, even if it is fully legal in your country.
