When I watch a 1080p mkv movie on my Apple TV 2 (knows it only shows in 720p) the sound almost never follow the picture, but the delay is not constant. The movies plays fine on all my other XBMC installations (none ATV). I have tried both the SMB and the AFP protocol, but it doesn't seem to changes anything. It seems like it can't keep up with the stream, but I'm not sure this is the issue. Have anyone else have this issue, and what can be done to fix it?

Debug log (wiki) would be the first line of defense. We can see if it's freaking out in places, etc.

system->system->audio->"dts capable receiver" <- did you tick that on? (depends on your used audio equipment)

Ok as of the looks you are not using passthrough. Thats the problem - decoding the DTS puts to much load on the CPU - that might be to much for atv2. The new audioengine is just way to heavy for the atv2 - downgrading to eden might give you a better experience when it comes to performance ...
