[i.MX6] XBMC running on Freescale SoC's
(2014-05-02, 23:37)wolfgar Wrote: No not yet sorry : it is one of the 2 remaining big issues with imx6 (the other being HD audio)

wolfgar, I just want to mention that I convinced rabeeh @ solid-run to seed Anssi with a cubox-i to work on the HD audio for imx6.

Maybe you could have a bit of discussion with Anssi on #cubox to bring him up to speed. fritsch indicated that Anssi is strong on Alsa.

Hi

Thank you very much cbxbiker61
I have just opened a ticket on github to centralize and make a point regarding HD audio work for imx6 : https://github.com/xbmc-imx6/xbmc/issues/68

Regards
Stephan

So you get it to work now. That's really cool. Cant wait to test this when I get my CuBox-i4Pro.

Thanks!

I'm getting cyan subtitles instead of yellow on mkv files on cubox-i.
Can anyone please test other i.MX6 platforms. Here's a sample file:

Hi JoZerByte
It seems that I have the same issue (utilite and cuboxi tested...)

I installed latest xbmc-imx-git 13.20140506-1 on wandboard quad(archlinuxarm), when I click the power button and want to shutdown/reboot the system, I found that there is just a "Exit" item in the menu, the others disappeared.
this is the user xbmc:
[root@alarm ~]# id xbmc
uid=1000(xbmc) gid=1000(xbmc) groups=1000(xbmc),6(disk),90(network),91(video),92(audio),93(optical),95(storage),98(power)

Is there anything that I missed?

i.MX6 support development for XBMC/Kodi is still very much alive, see https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/5202

Active downstream fork at https://github.com/xbmc-imx6/xbmc before merged into upstream mainline master.

Most discussion is happening here http://www.solid-run.com/community/xbmc-...rd-f7.html

Freescale i.MX6 platform is still gaining popularity and more hardware based on it is released every month.

I think this is due to great Linux support from Freescale, as seen in OpenELEC and GeeXboX / OpenBricks
https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv
https://github.com/OpenBricks/openbricks

Many cheap developer boards are based on Freescale iMX6 which means a broad user-base of developers.

http://www.cnx-software.com/category/pro...cale-i-mx/

For a more end-user targeted appliance device based on it checkout the EzeeCube, or PC Partner D518.

If you need more evidence then do a search for "Freescale" on sites like CNX-software.com or liliputing.com
http://www.google.com/cse?q=freescale&sa...gsc.page=1
http://liliputing.com/?s=freescale

Freescale have unveiled plans for i.MX6 Next, i.MX7 and i.MX8 so iMX series support will live on a long time

Congratulations to all working XBMC/Kodi i.MX6 support for Linux on having pull request merged which among other things brings initial VPU decoding!

https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/5202

Do you think this mean that Kodi for Android will also get hardware assisted video decoding on Freescale i.MX 6 SoC series soon on Android too?

Hi Hedda

Yes it should follow, I know Rabeeh already initiated this work (based on the same source) :

Hi Stéphan,

Looks like Rabeeh have only posted links to XBMC/Kodi binaries on Dropbox there without posting source code on GitHub or as a separate package.

https://github.com/rabeeh/

Any chance you can contact him about submitting patches to upstream? or at least work the code somewhat publicly on his GitHub account?

Sure hope that this initial VPU code for Android too is contributed as a patch for upstream, and preferably in time for inclusion into Kodi 14 (Helix)!

Hi Hedda,

I think Rabeeh has compiled the same source we have made available for linux regarding VPU but I will ping him for confirmation...
Keep you informed

This might not be the right place to ask, but I'm trying to build this using the archlinuxarm PKGBUILD and it seems that OpenMax doesn't compile right. It's using the 3.10.17_1.0.0 vivante drivers. I cannot figure out why there are subtle differences in the symbol definitions:
