Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]

If you can do it yourself that's just perfect (by the way i'm curious how you add the driver to the OE build, if you have some insights on the method).

The vaapi ppa seems stable enough to be included as an experimental build.

the entire OE build system compiles everything from source. To swap in a different source for XBMC or the VAAPI driver, all I have to do is change a few URLs and a couple other lines of text. Obviously there's dependencies to worry about, but it's not insurmountable

I currently have dual boot chromeOS + openlec and I want to switch to Ubunto+xbmc. How hard would it be to switch over?

do a factory reset using the recovery media, then install Ubuntu using the script.

I am sorry as I can see this topic has been covered and I have read a decent amount but I am on the cusp of hitting a point where I can no longer return my chromebox and I am not sure if it is worth keeping with this issue. Running stand alone Openelec 2gb ram HP Chromebox

the hardware acceleration, I noticed the stops in the video with the sound continuing then the video would catch up. I tried the following

enable SW filter for VAAPI - this played fine for a while till the picture froze and the sound kept going. With this setting clicked it never fixed itself and I had to manually power down unit.

Disable VAAP all together - with this any movie 720 or above does not play smoothly

Disable hardware acceleration all together - playback not smooth

I have been trying to read up as much as I can and I see there is discussions of a potential build with different drivers, but for the time being what set up are people currently mitigate the issue? I think today is the last day I can return the box and although performance wise it is solid this issue almost defeats the purpose of having it at all.

for the time being I am going to the suggested settings in the wiki. Maybe the freeze I had using the sw filter was a random one off, I dont even remember the file I was viewing when it happened

as I stated I am sorry for asking questions that have been gone over, its just that it is hard to tell which post or ideas to fix are current, or just something that was posted 2 months ago that has been identified as being useless. Thanks in advance for any help

Do more have SW filter enabled or disabled? Is there any actual benefit to just using confluence to prevent the freeze? Is an actual solution close to being implemented?

with the latest OE beta (4.1.6) and the recommended settings in the wiki (all VAAPI options enabled), you should not be experiencing any issues. Skin selection isn't relevant.

that won't make a difference unless you are playing back VC-1 (vs h.264) content, and will not affect any lock-ups you might be experiencing

Ive read it multiple times. Sorry but I'm new to this.

So what your saying is to run this script :

curl -L -O http://goo.gl/3Tfu5W

sudo bash 3Tfu5W

To change the boot order?

ok, then what part isn't clear? When you run the script (as above), option 3 lets you set the boot options - which OS is default, and the timeout before the default OS boots. (I believe) that is clearly explained in the first post - there's a screenshot and everything. If it's not clear, let me know how I can make it more so.

Option 3 as posted in Post 1

I wasnt sure if the script was something meant just for the install process. But now I see that its necessary for making changes to change the boot order.

Thank you all for your help

It will get you set up with an updated kernel and pre-install XBMC, all you will have to do is add Chromium. Alternately, someone did do a write-up on the forums here to set up Arch on the ChromeBox; you can read that and see if you think it's doable.
Thanks for all the good help, I will do this. But first I`ll think I try the Chromium addon. Try and see if it fits my needs.

Thanks, I`ll go for testing this first. See if it is enough for me.

Thanks everyone!!

Many thanks for all the effort YOU all do! THANKS! :-)
