Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]
For anyone wondering why the HP Chromebox is so much louder than the Asus: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+MattDeVilli...piz5CKGKF8

The only "Problem" is, in Germany you pay ~50 eur more for an Asus than for HP: http://geizhals.de/?cat=sysdiv&asuch=chr...300&sort=r

I get that, and it sucks, I'm just saying there's no easy fix for the HP. Many people were wondering if it were a firmware issue or simply a noisy part, and that's not the case.

it is also implemented for H264 only and not for MPEG2, that might be because mpeg2 in europe is SD material only (live TV) and this could be handled by advanced software de-interlacing. Is this the reason?

Are you watching MPEG2 DVD content ? ISTR that DVDs are handled separately to other content in XBMC.

No I am refering to Live TV, all non HD channels in Europe and received by a dish are MPEG2 interlaced. Furthermore I understood that in the US dvb-c is often also MPEG2 based.
As sad before the new hardware decoding options are selectable only on MPEG4 (h264) live tv streams. It s all still very alhpa so, I am sure it will be fine at the final rls of helix Smile

Just got installing this last night, it's great. Matt, thanks for all the hard work. It's a lot quicker than my Pi.

Yea I picked the HP up for $139 US on sale vs $179 for the Asus.

I have mine positioned behind my TV sitting on top of my hard drive and I do not ever notice the fan especially when playing a movie. If I am flipping through menus I guess it is noticeable but not terribly.

I did notice the temp being a bit high at times when displayed in XBMC. Do you think there are concerns to the higher temps or is the higher temps just going to lead to the fan running more often?

I wish I would have know this prior to buying the HP. Oh well...

Hi Matt Devo,

I saw a thread you commented on Slick Deals about the ASUS Chromebox. I had some questions and I certainly don't mean to hijack this thread...

Basically I'm looking for an XBMC box, I don't have very many movies/music or larger files so I don't really need a true HTPC...I'm thinking the ASUS would be good as is, maybe with the RAM upgrade but leave the SSD as is.

If my goal was for XBMC with icefilms or 1channel and additionally Sports Devil...would the ASUS be a good option? New Egg currently is selling this for $145 after rebate...

Also, would a Chromebook (say the Acer C720) be better due to portability? I have 2 TVs in different rooms...TMK, the RAM is upgradable on the Acer (or maybe just the SSD I don't recall).

Thanks and sorry for going off topic!

Matt i see @fritsch's thread (intel drive/VAAPI stuff) may be related to the intel Linux video driver bug ( https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78960 ).
Do you know whats going on with that fix? i'm not sure if that thread has the fix for that or is it a fix to another intel driver.

Hi

I have some "small" problems, not sure how to fix or edit this to be working.

If I use the sleep function on the box, it works nice if I turn it on in a short time.
If I don`t use the machine for a while, I get stuck at boot up with some text running, and the it hangs with the cursor on the screen.
Video of the fault

And sometimes, it wont read the library, cant just see the "files" view. I have deleted and the added the sources again.
It comes and goes.

I also have problem opening some movies, example in this log is Wargames, it works nice on all the other computer at the network,
but have not tried with XBMC on the other computer/clients.

Log

Hope it something in my setup, that is fixable. I did not have these errors on my PI, nor on my old computer.

Where are the files located? A network share?

the RAM is not upgradeable on any of the Haswell-based ChromeBooks. No need for an upgrade on the Asus just to run OpenELEC and some add-ons.

from the video, looks like it's doing a filesystem check, but hard to tell given the size/clarity of the text. Log seems to indicate it's having trouble updating the database, is it on a network source? If so, do you have the 'wait for network start' option selected under Settings/OpenELEC/Network ?

Yes it is. SMB, with username/password.

It can look like that yes. But does it have to do that every time it has been at sleep for a while (2 -4 hours)?

No, that I have not. I will try to activate it.

Enable wait for network start and your problems should go away.

I will try this.

Then the question is the "long" start up as mention.
If it is a filesystem check, why don`t XBMC start after it finished?
