the GPU hang issue is currently mitigated with the 'Use SW filter' setting; those kernel params don't fix the issue, but Intel devs are actively working on it.

Sorry, i forgot to mention i'm running pure ubuntu, and it happens randomly in compiz or while watching a video so looking for a global solution that works outside of xbmc. Hopefully they find a fix for it soon.

Hi There!

I was planning on doing a standalone installation of Openelec and something went wrong. I was able to flash the custom firmware (also made a backup of the stock firmware). Then I made the Openelec installation media on a USB stick. Once the chromebox reboots, it doesn't want to show the boot menu option. I tried loading Chromium on a USB stick, and the chromebox doesn't show the boot menu either. Anything you can advise a newbie?

FYI: I tried hitting ESC several times on power on, and it did show the boot menu, but hit it too many times it went to "Booting from Hard Disk...". Also tried CTRL + D and same thing happened. It probably has a 5% chance of showing the boot menu while doing these methods.

I need help real bad. Thank you!

If this has been addressed already, please forgive me for not reading through all 137 pages tonight. My old Acer Revo 1600 is on its last legs, and I'm looking for a replacement. The chromebox looks to be an excellent choice, and with the promo code at Fry's, $119 looks like a hard price to beat.

I'd like to do the stand-alone install, as this will be dedicated to XBMC/Kodi, and I've been running XBMCbuntu on the old Acer. When I read that the standalone will allow for the installation of any version of Ubuntu & XBMC, I presume that XBMCbuntu will fit into that category without issue?

I've dabbled with OE a bit, and just haven't been as impressed with it as I am with my XBMCbuntu, and I already have a number of other computers about the house, so there's really no need for an additional, full-service box in the living room, so XBMCbuntu is my go-to choice, unless someone has a compelling reason to sway me otherwise.

looking for input after a recent install using the script
- standalone openelec install, HP CB1-014

The built in bluetooth doesn't seem to work. If I plug in a dongle it recognizes it but not the built in. As a chromebox, it was operational. Ten minutes later after firmware update and openele install, no bluetooth. Any input/updates/upgrades?

download the OpenELEC Generic x86_64 disk image, unzip, write to USB using Win32diskimager. If you hit ESC more than once, it will auto boot the internal HDD, so don't do that (I'll have to change this in the future). If you're not seeing the 'press ESC' text, your USB stick isn't being recognized, so try another. If you see the 'press ESC' text and you're pressing ESC without it bringing up the boot menu, try anther keyboard.

Any Linux with a reasonably modern kernel (3.14+) will work fine, all the hardware is fully supported. XBMCbuntu will work just fine.

you have to turn on/enable BT under OpenELEC, it's not enabled by default - which is why it's listed under the 'recommended settings' section of the wiki.

Hi Matt, bought the Asus chrome box a while ago and got around to putting openelec standalone on it today.

Followed your wiki and used your scripts and it all went very smoothly, thank you very much for the effort you put into the scripts, the wiki and the work helping us on the forum.

I am very impressed with the chromebox, it is replacing my older htpc and so far seems much faster particularly with library creation.
