Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]
There is a dual boot howto in the openelec wiki.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Yes, my settings are on expert. I am quite familiar now with Kodi, usually when my settings don't show up first time is because my amp is switched off.

When my amp is on and i boot up Kodi using OpenElec all sound options show up.

I have mono vision and can see a lot of judder on 60hz....24hz is smooth to my "eye"....i can see out of both eyes but only one at a time because of surgery i had as a kid.

I would like to dual boot with OpenElec and Linux but don't know how to do it.

I want to use this as my main PC and having a torrent client is my main concern.

Cheers.

dual booting OpenELEC + Ubuntu (or anything other than ChromeOS) is well outside of the scope of this thread and my script. But since it's no different than doing so on a "regular" PC, there's plenty of info out there on how to set it up. Of course, you could always run Kodibuntu or install a torrent client via add-on in OpenELEC

Thanks for the info once again.

I will work out something soon.

All the best to you all in the new year.

I'm running XBMC (OpenELEC 4.2.1) and for some reason the videos I play (both from my home network and from external sources) are freezing. However the audio/subtitles continue. Any solutions?

upgrade to OpenElec 5 or check the wiki (hint VAAPI)

Matt, Huge thanks for the wiki and setup script - got OE standalone going in no time.

The only problem I've run into is, if I understand correctly, that the current Intel VAAPI driver doesn't support decoding of interlaced VC-1, thread: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1868773

Worth a mention on the wiki?

I encountered this with the BBC's Wonders of the Solar System BD, that being 1080i50 VC-1. Software decoding works, but playback is choppy (lots of frame drops, CPU can't keep up?).

I asked my contacts at intel on why this is not merged into any mainline driver yet: http://sprunge.us/JfNA

As we also tried to implement it last summer without too much success. I am curious.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

^Interesting, thanks.

Before getting too exciting - ffmpeg work also needs to be done. For now it will fail to call the decode function. But getting driver support into a mainline driver is first step, after that we can fiddle with struct mappings.

Any instructions on how to upgrade from OE 4.2.1 to OE 5.0 around? It doesn't seem to update using OE's built in update system,

It's not supposed to auto update. Instructions

Thanks. Was able to install OE5.0 and added the recommended adjustments to the settings. However I'm still struggling with videos freezing while subtitles and audio continuing. Was hoping this issue would disappear after the update.

Is this the dreaded Intel bug? If so the workaround in the wiki isn't working for me.

in kodi OE5.0 you need to uncheck the whole "VAAPI hardware acceleration" option, not only the "prefer VAAPI" one. But OE 5.0 was supposed to have the freeze bug fix (confused).

What type of Box do you have? Have you seen in your Logfiles?

Don't spread any things that are not true. The chromebox works perfectly fine with 5.0 - I let it test by at least 3 different chromebox testers whit a whole lot of different samples. So whatever "freeze" is arround now needs proper logfiles, including kernel logs. It's not a freeze about some "internet streams from somewhere that fell of a truck" or something.
