[OLD/CLOSED] PseudoTV Live - Set-Top box solution
hello everyone,

Just after the update, I can't load PseudoTV Live anymore, i get a 'script failed' error. Also, when I try to load it again, it tells me that it's already running. I re-installed it as well but that didn't help.

debug log here: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=419025

any help would be great, thanks!

edit: maybe i should mention i'm running the 13.2 Gotham on a Fire TV

Same here. After the new update push I get a script failed error when trying to launch. Sad
Quick question:

Does anyone know if there'd be a difference between enabling channel sharing and simply symlinking the "addon_data" folder between two separate Kodi instances?

I know it's not recommended or supported, but I've seen several success stories, and I've got several Kodi boxes running at this point and for spouse friendliness I'd like to keep them all as in sync as possible, so I'm considering trying to symlink, among other things, the kodi/addons folders and the kodi/userdata/addon_data folder. I'd also like to keep PTVL running on my main box constantly in set-top mode, so any other box that connects has a fully updated channel list and epguide to work with.

So I guess I have two questions:

1: Has anyone tried such an arrangement without the help of the built-in PTVL sharing mechanism? Has it gone well?

2. If not, Does anyone see inherent problems with this setup? I've got the database, playlist, sources, etc. synced between the boxes, and PTVL's sharing option has been working great with all the boxes. I just think using the sharing option in PTVL would be extraneous and possibly break things if the addon_data was also synced.

It would just make administration of the boxes so much easier if addons were instantly synced across devices, but if I break PseudoTV Live in the process, there will be an uproar in my house.

Any advice/warnings would be much appreciated.

The first one I noticed was a recurrence of an issue I used to have with PTVL that had gone away a few months ago, namely that I have a lot of files that skip back to their beginning if I change the channel to them while they're already in progress. I can be watching a movie, switch somewhere else and go straight back again and that movie will restart from zero. I think last time it had something to do with PTVL not liking .srt subtitle files and mp4 or mkvs being in the same folder on my drive.

The other (more frustrating) issue I've had is that PTVL seems to be causing my instance of Kodi to constantly reload the skin. I can leave it idling on the home screen and every 60-120 seconds or so the skin will flicker as though it is redrawing. If I'm watching a file, it will regularly stutter for about half a second and then carry on playing as normal. I didn't think it had anything to do with PTVL until I looked at my logs of this flicker while Kodi is idle, when I noticed that PTVL is trying to do something while it's not actually running. You can see this from line 347 onwards in this log - http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=417996 - After seeing that I realised that those intermittent stutters in playback aren't occurring when watching PTVL. Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?

I am seeing the same reload skin issue. I am not at my box right now to pull a log but it is reloading the skin during playback as you mentioned and even when just sitting on the home page. This started occuring directly after PTVL updated from .57f to .58a.

I will up a log shortly.

Same problem here !!!

Hmmm, it did seem like it was a new issue even on the latest version b. Trying to break it again this morning and i can not get it to break. There was an issue with the EPG being incorrect as well last night but trying again today. So ill keep trying to break it but it seems ok so far.

--Just noticed. There does seem to be an issue where a channel (e.g. BBC Three) that does not play shows 24/7 its only active in the evenings. The epg shows information for it during times nothing is on. if u try to play a show that's supposed to be on now, it will ask if i want to set a reminder for Family Guy at 10:30pm. Is this my epg file being wrong or a PTVL issue?

in-app manger suggestions, ability to define the logo? Just incase the logo name isnt matching up or being elusive?
Hi Lunatixz,

well I don't really know where to start with the new update. Before updating everything was running smoothly and without any bigger problems but now PseudoTV is almost unusable on my system (OSX,Mac Mini 2013, Kodi 14).
I didn't change any settings in PseudoTV or Kodi neither did I install or delete any updates or skins or add ons or whatever so all these bugs following must be 100% PseudoTV update related:

Bugs:
- While browsing the EPG it takes seconds (3-10) to hover to the next channel especially if it needs to "turn pages". That was not an issue before. Before update all was running in an instant.
- After quitting PseudoTV and trying to relaunch, a message occurs saying "PseudoTV already running".
- Sometimes after quitting PTV I get a black screen which I have to exit using backslash on my keyboard (This was an issue before the update as well)
- Funny bug on the side Big Grin I tried to add a Program to my widget on the main screen but instead of showing me the option where I can choose the program I want to integrate into the widget it started scanning PTV channels.
- Now sometimes I have to force quit Kodi after running PTV

In the end I would like to say that I really like PTV and I would like to thank you for all your hard work and I'm confident that you will fix all the bugs, obviously this program is still in beta phase.
But I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't react on my donation mail a week ago. I'm sure you have a lot on your mind and it may have gone under the pile of work but a thank you would have been nice even though it wasn't a big donation...

I'm gonna guess that the artwork spooling service is still running and doing its thing. Hence the slow EPG navigation, and unable to restart PTVL as a service is still running. Try turning off this service, or running it on faster hardware, or just giving it longer to finish.

Hi, thanks for your answer...

after playing around with it for a while now I was guessing the same thing, couldn't find an option to turn it off though (maybe I'm extremely blind or it's hidden somewhere Tongue )
I changed some setting though and now it's running almost like before. But I'm curious about the "artwork spooling" tweak. Why is PTV not just scanning my own artwork that is already saved in the folders of the tv shows / movies. I would like to see those coming up and sometimes they do (but maybe that's a coincidence and it's just by luck scraping the same artwork) and some artworks are completely different and not to my liking.
I think this would be one for Lunatixz: Can you implement an option like use existing artwork from folder or so?
Im really unsure about artwork spooling since i know he just revamped it and changed the way it works. Perhaps it's linked to systems caching in misc settings, but i dont think disabling that is a good idea. Have to wait for Luna to give the real answer haha

Well I couldn't wait lol
So I didn't disable artwork spooling, instead I cleared the art cache (option under misc), reloaded and bam all working great Smile

Still problems after quitting with the black screen and that's happening really on a random basis.
Didn't try again the error with the widget (if Luna is interested I'd try to create the error again)

so far no problems with force quit Kodi anymore
Seems like PTV was still trying to manage caching artwork so I'm relieved its working as it is right now Smile

thanks again for your help Dec64 ... your hint gave the essential idea
Hey Luna,

Directory Channels work properly again with your new implementation, thanks! Noticed 1 problems with 0.5.8b. I recreated a new settings2.xml to ensure it wasn't something bad coming from a previous version.

Autotune does not populate the epg anymore, but they are created and listed in the settings2.xml.

I'm just starting to recreate all my channels again and will post any more problems with logs if I think its setup specific. I don't think the autotune one is since it won't populate the epg with a fresh settings2.

Also wanted to say thanks for this new Channel Configuration GUI with the pluggin implementation. Using some of the donor ones and it is awesome, what a great feature!

Try recreating your settings2.xml file. I had the same problem, but I recreated my settings2.xml and it loaded properly. My guess is that it doesn't like old directory channels anymore, but honestly I didn't play with it to long, I just started recreating channels with the new configuration GUI. I did copy my USTVNOW channels over no problem, but that is all I took from my previous one, everything else I'm starting fresh again and it is working.

+1

As always...Thanks to Lunatix for all the hard work toward resolve
No logs, no fix!
