Yes, the unit powers up via IR. I use a Harmony 350, then when the openELEC loads the IR ends to works due to a BIOS problem with linux.

May also power up by USB devices like mouses and CEC poweron signal.

I just bought the I3 version (coming this week). I do have a Harmony Touch. Which is the device I have to put in to remotely control the NUC?

Any news on (Celeron) 3205U/3755U NUCs? Or should i just go and buy DN2820FYKH?

No - one does not buy a DN2820FYKH - not as long as there is a much more capable chromebox available.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Unfortunately, the chromebox is not a option for me. It's simply not sold in my country (russia) for some reason. So it's either a DN2820FYKH (which is btw now twice the price in rubles of what it used to be due to the recent currency fall) or waiting for the new gen celeron nucs for unknown period of time. Pretty sure i will be ok with the 2820 since i only want to use it to watch/stream 720p24fps/720p50fps/1080p24fps movies (bitrate is usually <25mbps) from my nas over (gigabit) lan, but if the new stuff is just around the corner i might wait.

EDIT. And just for information.. is something like a asus M004U better than a 2820?

Yes, this does not use the WMC in any way - it is just the default layout for the RC6 remotes (Windows Media Center remotes) that most people use, and with which the Harmony is compatible.
KODI works with this profile out of the box, so that is the easiest way to go about it. (There is an addon to enable more functionality for that, named MCE remote - install, run KODI as admin once,
let it set it's profile, be done..there are tutorials out there about that)

Yes. CPU is faster and the GPU has 10EU vs 4EU. It also ships with 2GB RAM + 16GB SSD vs nothing in the 2820. In the US right now, the Chromebox is only $10 more.

FYI, Raspberry Pi 2 can play <25mbps just fine and is even cheaper.

Maybe the Asus VivoMini PC is available? It uses the same Celeron hardware as their chromebox models, and the barebones kit can be had for a fair price(not sure about pre-config models). Or maybe look into the 4th gen NUC?
