Question
Hi Matt,

first of all thank you for your great work.

I installed OpenELEC 5.0.8 standalone on my new ChromeBox and all went fine.

But after upgrading to 5.95.1 I can't access the box via ssh anymore. After reboot I got this message:
"A start job is running for OpenSSH server daemon (1s/1min30s)", then it counts up to 1:30 before starting OpenELEC. In the logfiles I found this:
May 12 10:41:39 Chromebox systemd[1]: sshd.service start-pre operation timed out. Terminating.
May 12 10:41:39 Chromebox ssh-keygen[307]: ssh-keygen: generating new host keys: RSA1
May 12 10:41:39 Chromebox systemd[1]: Failed to start OpenSSH server daemon.
May 12 10:41:39 Chromebox systemd[1]: Unit sshd.service entered failed state.
May 12 10:41:39 Chromebox systemd[1]: sshd.service failed.

The system is not able to start the ssh daemon Sad

Acess via SMB works fine. So how can I enable ssh again?

Regards
Wolfgang

using a wireless connection?
System-->OpenELEC-->Network: Wait for network before starting Kodi: enabled

otherwise unsure, no issue here. Check on the OE forums / IRC channel, it's definitely not ChromeBox specific/related

OK, thanks. I posted this in the OE forum yesterday, but didn't get an answer yet.

Hi, again me and my noob questions.
I will try to create the install key from my PC using Mobaxterm. I just want to know if the script will prompt me for which usb device to use or will it grab the first found.
It must really be a dumb question, but i don't want to take the risk with my other pluged devices (yes i could unplug them i know Big Grin ).

Thanks again

what does Mobaxterm have to do with anything? You can't ssh into ChromeOS, but even if you could, you'd still be dealing with the USB devices connected to the ChromeBox, not your PC. Either way, the script will prompt you to connect the USB device, provide a list of connected USB devices, and prompt you to select which device to use.

Ok, maybe i wasn't clear or i missed something.

I just wanted to use the 6th option "Create Openelec Intsall Media" and i imagined i could do this from my PC. Of course i didn't mean the firmware backup and the Custom Firmware installation.

Did i missed something ?

if you want to create the OpenELEC install media from your PC, then follow the instructions on the OpenELEC site for doing so, which are also linked from the ChromeBox wiki.

What you are trying to do doesn't make sense - you can't run my script from a Windows PC, and if you're connecting to another (Linux) machine via SSH and running the script there, then what devices are connected to your Windows PC are irrelevant, since the script is physically running on another machine.

I tried to update to latest as I always have, but got an error this time... any idea why?

Now this is my 2nd (recently bought) Chromebox with standalone OpenELEC, but I made sure my other Chromebox was powered off.

Because of the error downloading, which is caused by a bug in the OE beta. It should be fixed in beta 2. I can't stress enough that there's no need to update the firmware just to have the latest version.

If you want to update OE, just download the tar from the OE web page, transfer it [1] to the target machine and put it in the .update directory, reboot. That is all.

[1] from a linux machine this is as easy as
Code:
scp Openelec.whatever.tar root@openelecmachine:~/.update/

From a windows machine use winSCP, a graphical scp client.

he's already on 5.95.1, don't think he's trying to update OE Smile
