Hi Matt, thanks for putting this out there, I've used it flawlessly for the last few years but have now run into a problem I can't seem to troubleshoot.

For some reason I seem to be stuck in a boot loop and can't get past the loading screen. The cursor shows up, the logo flashes and then this repeats incessantly. I haven't tried much because I don't know where to start. I've seen some other people post that this was a known bug in a build circa 2014, but it's the first time it happened to me.

I'm running openelec standalone on an Asus chromebox, I don't know the specific build as I can't get in to check.

My first thought is I should try a clean install, but I don't know how to wipe the old version or if I can just stick the USB boot in and it will overwrite and start from scratch.

I have Openelec installed as a standalone OS on my Asus Celeron Chromebox. I'd like to try out GalliumOS without losing my current install. Can I boot to a USB (containing GalliumOS) from a standalone Openelec install? I've tried the whole CTRL+L at boot, etc, but no luck.

Do I need to do a whole new reinstall as a dual boot even just to boot from USB?

No you can boot from USB on an OpenELEC stand alone. But some USB sticks seem to work better than others.

Thanks for the very quick reply. I am using a Sansdisk Extreme 32GB USB 3.0 stick. Is the normal proceedure just the hit Crtl+L at boot? If I do that, all I get is a prompt saying "BOOT:" and pressing ENTER goes on to load Openelec. Should I be typing something in at the prompt?

IIRC, the problem is a corrupted addon/addon data that causes Kodi to to crash and continually reload. Since it's just Kodi that's crashing/restarting and not OpenELEC, you can still access things via SMB or SSH to try and figure out which addon it is and remove it. Or, you can just blow everything away and start fresh, which is as simple as booting updated OpenELEC install media and choosing the quick install option (which partitions/formats the selected drive).

refer to the boot process diagram from the wiki - CTRL-D/L cease to exist once you flash the custom firmware. As nickr mentioned, you simply press ESC when prompted to select the boot device. If you want to test out GalliumOS without installing to the internal ssd, you simply write the ISO to USB/SD media and boot it. You can either run it in live mode, or install to a 2nd USB stick and then select that from the boot menu to run GalliumOS.

Pulling my hair out trying to get my remote working. I use a Harmony 650. I bought two different MCE sensors, an Ortek VRC-1100, and a Sony PCVA-IR8U. I got the Ortek working OK, but programming the remote as an Media Center Extender instead of a keyboard limits the buttons I have available to map, I was hoping to be able to use it as a keyboard. So I tried the Sony with the remote programmed as an MCE Keyboard. It registers in Openelec as as an "eHome Infrared Remote Transceiver" and "MCE IR Keyboard/Mouse" when I do "cat /proc/bus/input/devices":

HI Matt, Have you deleted the checksum file by mistake? Getting the error message "coreboot firmware download checksum fail: download corupted, cannot flash". I have an ASUS Chromebox CN62 (Broadwell Celeron 3205U) GUADO. Installing from the UK so don't think its a firewall issue.

I don't have a good answer to solve the problems with your receivers, but I use a Flirc with my Harmony 650 and Chromebox OE setup flawlessly. I highly recommend it, way easier to set up. Good luck.

boot up OpenELEC with the Sony receiver connected, ssh in, and give me the output of 'dmesg | pastebinit' - that will tell if there's an issue with the receiver itself.

my initial reaction however is to wonder what functions you're not able to map / get working with the MCE extender (remote) profile vs the MCE keyboard profile. I'm using a Harmony One w/MCE extender profile and, and have a few unused MCE buttons custom mapped using the MCE keymap editor add-on. I actually find the MCE keyboard profile far more limiting.

the checksum file is present and correct, so not sure why you got that error besides a truncated/corrupted download. Can you try again? I don't have a Broadwell device currently to test myself.

I feel like I'm alone in detesting the Flirc, since others seem to swear by it, but I could never get it working reliably (and dislike being limited to a keyboard emulator) whereas the MCE receivers have worked nearly perfectly OOTB for me.

I have shortcuts to a handful of things (specific add-ons, and some Kodi functions) setup in my keymap/Harmony software, using the function keys from the keyboard. I found it easier over the years to setup anything custom that I wanted with unused keyboard keys like F1 F2 etc, since there are quite a few of those.

This morning I tried using the Microsoft Windows Media Center SE profile in the Harmony software as opposed to the Media Center Extender profile, and while that didn't solve my problem of the remote not working at all with the Sony receiver, I did notice it has a lot more keys available that I could remap to Kodi functions, I'm going to try that one with the Ortek IR receiver too

Your not alone. I have two Flircs sitting in a drawer because despite being a pretty resourceful guy, I could never get them to work exactly right.

It was very hit or miss for me. There were times when it worked fine, and I liked the flexibility and ease of setup, but lately it had become basically unusable. Hitting keys would result in an endless loop of repeating that key, so things like scrolling through a list of movies would just start cycling through endlessly until I rebooted the box. I tried pretty much every possible combination of settings for interkey delay, repeat, etc in both the Harmony software and the Flirc software, and none of them worked, I'd still get random key explosions

No such luck. Not sure if its a file permissioning problem. I can download and run the ez script but having problems with the coreboot file. Is there another goo.gl link I should try?
