Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]
(2016-02-21, 15:36)rmilyard Wrote: So does this latest version of OpenELEC fix the WiFi issue on a lot of Chromebox's booting up with WiFi turned off?
Yes, both 6.0.199 and 6.99.1 have the fix for that issue

When I try to update the firmware, I am getting a message stating that "You already have the latest firmware (20160217)". Do I need to wait a day or so before it will recognize the (20160221) version?

no, you just need to read more clearly Smile The 2/21 script update was an OpenELEC update only, no firmware changes - it says that explicitly in the change log and my post

With previous versions (before I tired EGL) on resume it wasn't 100% but if kodi was restarted on resume (via a sleep.d script) it would pick up the correct HDMI inputs and worked fine.

TV - HDMI 2
AVR - HDMI 1

Pulse Eight CEC adapter plugged into externally powered USB hub.

If I do a cold boot or reboot it works fine.

If I resume after only being off for a short while it selects the correct HDMI inputs.
If I resume after a few minutes or more it selects HDMI 1 on the TV, manually changing causes it to flip back to HDMI 1. Restarting just kodi (which previously worked) causes the TV to correctly switch to HDMI 2 but there's no video output from the Chromebox, rebooting fixes this.

<snip>

Best to start from scratch on this with a total fresh install of OE?

Hard to say, I don't think very many Chromebox users are using a Pulse-Eight adapter like you, and I don't have one myself to test. I'm sure there were CEC-related updates in OE-7, but hard to say if that's the source of your issues. You might backup and try a fresh install, since the workaround scripts may not be needed anymore

Thanks for the quick reply. When I check the system info and summary information, the operating system is version 6.0.198-intel_EGL. At the bottom right of the summary page I read, Kodi 15.2 Git:02e7013 (compiled:Feb 1 2016).

you can update OpenELEC manually if you'd like per the wiki instructions; the update script is only for the firmware, not for OE/Kodi.

Hi Matt,

Is there a way to access your EZ Script to from an OPENELEC SSH Session? I'd like to burn the latest OE to a USB since your script is running KODI 16 with the correct BOOT vs SYSTEM partitioning. Thanks!

Unfortunately not, OpenELEC doesn't have a full bash shell, which is needed to run the EZ setup script. You can use a Linux live USB or just download it from the wiki link on another machine

Absolutely, not sure why 6.0.98 didn't work for you honestly
Ok, flashed 6.0.199 on top of 6.0.1 with no issue. Everything rockin' so far, fan does seem quiet again. Not sure why 6.0.98 didn't work previously, but to be fair, I was battling with 4k TV HDMI config issues around that time, so it could have been that (problems all resolved by forcing 1080p in autostart.sh). Thanks again Matt.

Glad to hear Smile

Question though. Why is the plastic piece next to the WP screw even there? What purpose is it serving? I couldn't figure out how to put it back in, so I'm about to close the box without it.

Edit: Nevermind, I just put it back in.

It sounds like you've experienced the same issue as me, although I've yet to fix it.

My fan is often audible, even when running idle. It hasn't always done this however. I'll try taking it apart tonight as you've done and see if it helps.
My fan runs at idle now, too. I think this has only been happening since Kodi 15/OE 6. I'm running OE 6.0.1 generic on Asus 2955u Celeron. Maybe the egl builds have a fan fix? I thought I read that a while back, but not sure if that's for the same issue.

Just an update on my side, I removed the fan and found the heatsink to be clogged with dust - cleaned and now appears to be OK.

Matt, I've tried to connect several bluetooth headsets to the Asus chromebox running Openelc (stand alone) but no success. It keeps saying session timeout. Any idea how to pair bluetooth headsets with Chromebox? thanks in advance.

Don't believe OpenELEC supports BT headsets, only input devices

Thanks for clarifying, Matt!

Link on wiki is still for 6.0.198-Intel_EGL and is a dead link. For those looking for 6.0.199-Intel_EGL, just edit the link from 6.0.198 to 6.0.199 after you click on it.
