Hi i have a quick question i run Xbmc to me Tv screen 32inch with a HDMI and i have a HTPC from sony connected to it running xbmc for windows. I set it up in xbmc to be 720p in appearance and Video settings. when i play a movie and press i on the keyboard to c all the info cpu usage etc under audio it says 420p and the really low cpu usage like 1-3% but when i click z to resize it says 720p etc. also under the 420 tab it shows me 24fps and 30% cpu usage. My question is Are my movies running in 720p to me it looks like they are but i could be wrong thanks / troca

there are two resolution settings, one for the GUI in settings -> appearance and one for the video player in settings -> video -> player. Both will need to be set to 720p

Where is that 420p displayed? Under "Sizing"?
I can't reproduce because i don't use hdmi but vga. On my PC XBMC displays 1280x570 for example as the size. That is because the movie has been encoded without the black bars. So if your movie had bars of 150 pixels on top and bottom, that might be it if XBMC just displays the size of the current movie which would then be 420p.
I hope that was understandable, i might be way outta here.
Did you check informations about your file in another application, like PowerDVD?

Take a screenshot of it and post that - that way there's no confusion.
Note that there's no such thing as "420p".

that's the color encoding scheme not the resolution.
