I can assume that it's not possible to understand what's going wrong without Debug Log.

I'm having the same problem as you, but to enable logging, here is how to do it manually.

I'm having the same problem.
I am a first time downloader of Kodi.
When I open Kodi from my Programs list,
I get the ERROR. Unable to create GUI. Exiting window
I then have to open the Task Manager to get a cursor to
end the program.
I think I downloaded DirectX 11 as suggested above
but I'm not sure if it is functioning.
When I click on the downloaded file, it produces two
files. One is a Powerpoint presentation and the other is an audio file
about DirectX 11 which is so complicated I barely understand what he's talking about
The Powerpoint presentation is just a bunch of stuff that doesn't make any sense.
Does anyone have a 'real' solution to this problem?
Getting Kodi to open is becoming more work than it's worth,
but I would still like to see it open and see how good it is.

@alorave @CEDRICWARD perhaps your hardware simply doesn't support DirectX 11?

It doesn't matter. DirectX11 it's just API, it can work on DirectX9 capable hardware. Most issues are driver related.

Where would I find the proper drivers to run Kodi?
I've Googled for Kodi drivers, but most of the links
take me back to the same pages I've been to earlier.

I don't want to use Kodi for a large TV but rather just
view movies on my Windows Vista PC.
Will that be a problem?

Everything about Kodi so far is VERY complicated.
Strange names for lots of addons, etc.

I'm not a dummy, but not a programmer.
I just want to be able to open and use Kodi
to see if it will enhance my viewing of videos and films.
Can't somebody make this information more User Friendly?

I to have the same problem ERROR. Unable to create GUI. Exiting.

I have been running kodi for about 6 months using vista 64 bit home premium and was having problems adding new applications so decided to upgrade to latest version. Downloaded new version and all I get is a blank screen and a pop up which says ERROR. Unable to create GUI. Exiting.
So I no longer have Kodi it used to work before. The latests version does not.

Anyone from the Kodi team have any idea whats going on.

Make sure you uninstall kodi before installing new versions. Don't install overtop. If you still have issues, delete the entire .kodi directory before re-installing.

Don't believe this false information.
You can install just on top.
