I have already bought it, so no going back.
Looking at the link above i can only boot an linux image for a USB Flashdrive is this correct ?
I do not have to mod the chromebox apart from sliding the switch to go into developer mode ?
Sorry for all the questions.
If i resell the chromebox and buy another what would you recommend ?
Thanks.
you need to slide the switch to put it in developer mode, then open it up and short the jumper to disable the firmware write protect. On the newer models, it's simply removing a screw as documented in the wiki. I'd recommend selling it and getting the cheapest Chromebox with a Celeron 2955U (or 3205U) that you can find.

Thanks for the info.
If i do the above what firmware should i run ?
I just want to get Kodi running on this Samsung chromebox i5.
Is running a linux build from USB Flashdrive my only option ?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to get a working kodi chromebox with what i have.
Regards Jacko.

after putting your box in developer mode and disabling the firmware write-protection, simply follow the steps for the standalone setup as detailed in the first post. Everything is the same for your box except those two initial steps. You will be able to install LibreELEC to the internal SSD from the USB install media, you don't need to run it from USB.

Cheers.
Quote:For a standalone setup, you will need to perform the following steps:
- Open the ChromeBox and remove the write-protect screw
- Put the ChromeBox in developer mode
- Download/run the Kodi E-Z Setup Script
- Select the Standalone / coreboot Install option, which will backup your stock firmware/BIOS and flash a custom one
- Create install media for desired OS. Script includes option to create install media for LibreELEC
- Power off ChromeBox
- Connect/plug-in USB install media (if not using LibreELEC media you just created)
- Power on ChromeBox, Press [ESC] from boot menu, select USB device
- Install LibreELEC, GalliumOS, or your OS of choice

Once again many thanks.
Does my Samsung series 3 i5 chromebox have a screw to remove or is it a jumper thing to do ( it has not arrived yet ) ?

I unplugged the chromebox for a few mins and then plugged it back in.
Now the power button lights up but nothing at all on screen.
