XBMC Ubuntu PPAs (precompiled PPA builds for Ubuntu)
Yes, use Hardy PPA.

Also, make sure to kill the process Pulseaudio. If you don't, xbmc will not be able to open (for me that was the case).

N.B. DON'T use the "Cruft Remover" (if you have it) as it will remove required dependencies for xbmc....

Good luck!

Cruft Remover?
Whats that?

It's a tool that shipped with prerelease versions of intrepid. Don't run it, if you have it.

Just tried the Hardy PPA on 8.10, did not work for me, needs libbluetooth2 or so, why does xbmc need bluetooth libs?
I think i´ll wait for the 8.10 PPA.

Hardy PPA didn't work under Intrepid here either. Same bluetooth library dependence.

Any idea whn we might see packages built for Intrepid?

just download the libbluetooth2 package and dpkg install it, then run apt-get install xbmc from hardy ppa's under intrepid.

I've just completed two such installs the last days here, and no problem at any time.

libbluetooth2 can be found here:

XBMC uses bluetooth for some controllers. Intrepid and 8.10 are the SAME thing.

Any difference in this build? Does it solve the messed up screen with the beta 8.11 ATI drivers?

I would suggest compiling from source until another release with intrepid support goes out the door. Actually, it's very easy to do and works great.

Looks like intrepid PPA has been posted already :-)

Thank you for the intrepid PPA installing right now Big Grin
Installed, and it works like a charm, THANK YOU. I just love XBMC

EDIT: XBMC works with pulseaudio, the menu sounds are a bit behind, biut thats no problem to me.
Remember to activate vsync within XBMC if you use nvidia driver and deactivate flipping in nvidia control panel.
From time to time it freezes upon downloading fanarts
If you have allready one Fanart and you choose to download another one, it freezes for me.

i also installed intripid PPA and have some issues:
  • when skipping forward a movie xbmc freezes often completely. also the sound then loops forever (have intel hd alsa, lsa-utils restart doesnt work)
  • after shutting down xbmc (quit app) the mouse is gone.

all the other stuff works really fine. thanx Wink

ringgh0st,

Did you try removing pulseaudio first? Try that and see if it solves the sound issue.

I've just reinstalled my work laptop with xbmc(!), a fresh Intrepid install + the official xbmc repositories.

It doesn't start - the error I get when launching from the command line is:

"xbmc libmysqlclient.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Have you missed some dependencies from the build?

Sean

edit: I've just installed mysql-client and mysql-common, and the problem is fixed. Thanks for the new intrepid build Smile
