Seems av.xml is evaluated too late. As you build yourself anyways, just force the value in Advancedsettings.cpp to true from false.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Setting "forcepcmpassthrough = true" in Advancedsettings.cpp did the trick - many, many thanks for identifying the error. Although I am a bit sorry that your advancedsettings.xml-workaround to enable PCM PT does not seem to work, it would have increased the chance that your PR is merged...

I can merge that stuff myself. But the team and I agree, that we don't want something like that. You know advancedsettings are "funny", but they get forgotten and are not easy to do for users. I really hope, that we find an official solution with the amazon people in the near future. Some talks have been arranged.

I cross my fingers that the talks are successful - it would be a huge benefit for all if the standards are implemented correctly. Thanks for your efforts anyway.

Hey, b711 or anyone with FTV, can you confirm that the PCM workaround still works on the last Fire TV update 5.2.4.0? Because someone said in another thread that the fw update might have broken Kodi PT. But it could have been a coincidence.

Works fine with 5.2.4.0 on my FTV4k.

Hey there,
on an FTV2 with FW 5.2.4.0 the transcoding to DD5.1 works just fine, so the PCM workaround should not be needed ...

Thanks for the feedback. But - to be honest - it does not help me at all. It just shows the buggy firmware for the Sony device.
Kodi will officially stop supporting XBR65X850C. As everything that is NOT working is not caused by kodi, but by their broken firmware. The images I provided were no solution but technically show the shortcoming of the implemented firmware by bypassing their implementation using a golden hammer.

Dear Kodi Team,
Yesterday I installed v17 RC on my Sony KD-55X8509C running android tv 5.1.1.
I've tried different settings but I only get Dolby Surround and no dts. Only gives pcm to my receiver. I had no problems with this in v16.
- Sync playback to display is off
- Audio output device: android, audio track (greyed out)
- Number of channels: 5.1
- Output configuration: Optimized
- Allow passtrough: On
- Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: On
- Dolby Digital Plus (AC3) capable receiver: On
Please help?
