Hi All,
Just a quick question. It seems that all the visualizations are implemented as bynary add-ons rather than python add-ons. Is this mandatory? Could i write my own visualization as a python add-on? If so, are there any examples of this i can look at?

I was researchin this as well and couldn't find the answer - there are no examples, nothing
I wanted to make a dummy visualization, so the screensaver wouldn't kick in while playing music

Good to know. Time to write some C/C++ code after more than a decade then. Thanks!

Can someone explain me how to compile the visualization. I want to edit an existing project to export the audio data to a custom service which will be used for lights. I cannot understand it and I have never build C++ codes extensively, just minor files to submit in college.

See cmake/addons in kodi source tree.
