Well your only other option is the RPi3. You will have 7.1 HD Audio losslessly decoded to Multichannel PCM Audio and output resulting in no loss in Audio quality.

I thought about RPi3 too, but judging from this page, there are too many disadvantages with it:
- No HD audio bitstreaming, only multichannel. Metadata (describing how things like dynamic range compression and dialog normalization should be handled) will be lost. But, this may not matter to many users
- As no bitstreaming, ATMOS and DTS:X are completely lost
- Slow/sluggish, especially compared to above 3D media player options

So far I'm really liking the X8, but wondering if I will regret not getting the X9S? Any long term owners have upgraded to X9S?

One thing about X8 that bugs me is, the skip backward/forward behavior is very different compared to Kodi player.

Literally on Kodi you just press "Direction Left/Right" once, you get a big visual feedback of -10/+10, and if you follow up with another press, you get +30, +1min, so on and so forth.

First of all, ZDMC player doesn't provide a visual guide of whether it's "+10, +30, or +1min..." The only way you can tell is by counting the time stamp on seek bar to see whether it's jumped forward or not. And it cannot do beyond 1min jump either.

Another problem is, I have tried pressing successively really fast but ZDMC player just doesn't skip backward/forward more than 45seconds to 1min or so. Is this a known issue?

I have made sure Settings > Video > Playback > Skip Steps are exactly the default, as in, 10s, 30s, 60s, 3min, 10min etc but ZDMC just doesn't want to skip more than the most 1min. What's wrong? I'm already on latest 1.30 and 1.42 firmwares the same problem persists.

Zidoo already admit that the X10 (I have one) is just the same SOC as the X8 and X9S, they don't hide that fact, although neither do they make it clear. The X10 just has a VFD display and HDD bay, that is the only difference.

You wont get Passthrough with Krypton on Zidoo models >X8 until Zidoo role back the hacks they made to the API to get passthrough etc working in V16. They are supposed to be working hard on that now. I wouldn't expect the next Firmware update from Zidoo to include a fork of Krypton yet, but we can wish I suppose

So does that mean their external player does not pass through HD audio, or is it just an issue if updated to Krypton and using Kodi's internal player?

The option appears when you press the power button. I configured the setting with the original remote. Remember to disable all CEC settings in advanced settings to prevent automatic power on.

What you described sounds like an odd behavior. Has the problem always been there? I wonder if this is a hardware or firmware issue.

Yes the problem always been there. Almost like the option is going into standby and something is waking it up. The option to ask me- before turn off works and remains off.

Could someone see if their units do this, you need to leave off over night and when you wake up will have switched back on.

Does somebody know if the X9S have problems with movies with removed cinavia protection? I already have 2 movies wich the sound goes like a 'wave'. The track with the music goes a bit slower for about a second en then it goes faster for a second. There's no problem with the voice track. I have this problem with the movie Sing and La La Land and both with the Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound track.
When i download another version of the movie with cinavia protection, it play's without any problem.

Got the X9S today. Also, got PIP working. How do you switch between the two. Make the PIP the main, etc?
