Android Passthrough Changes with v17
Hello fritsch,
my Sony Android TV (KD-65XD7504) got an update to Nougat (PKG6.2602.0065EUA) yesterday. I'm running now Android 7.0 with the kernel version 3.10.79. Can I help you somehow to get Dolby and DTS passthrough working? Or could we at least check if Sony has still shitty drivers? Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
What I tested so far with no luck (picture visible, but no sound at all - with AC3 and DTS videos):
1.)
- Channels: 5.1
- Allow Passthrough: ON
- AC3: ON
- DTS: ON
- Sync with display: OFF

2.)
- Channels: 2.0
- Allow Passthrough: ON
- AC3: ON
- AC3 Transcoding: ON
- DTS: ON
- Sync with display: OFF

3.)
- Channels: 2.0
- Allow Passthrough: ON
- AC3: ON
- AC3 Transcoding: OFF
- DTS: ON
- Sync with display: OFF

With these settings I get sound, but it's not 5.1:
- Channels: 2.0
- Allow Passthrough: ON
- AC3: ON
- AC3 Transcoding: OFF
- DTS: ON
- Sync with display: ON
I replied to you in the other thread. You don't need to help me :-) Your firmware is broken

Quote:- Channels: 5.1

- Channels must be 2.0 - you only have ARC nothing else.

Enable Dolby Transcode additionally.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Sorry I thought you need people with Android TV Nougat to test s.th.

I updated my previous post. No sound at all with 2.0, transcoding and sync to display.

You can help me (see my last post) with the provided testbuild. First diagnosis: Their update is AS broken AS it was before :-( they just picked their bugs ontop of N - not funny, just return it. Life is too short to waste it with broken Sony TVs.

Does passthrough disable OS volume control? Or did I change something else?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A
Obviously it DOES disable OS volume control. As it is RAW audio, if you change its volume, you will kill the bitstream.

I don't need to do what? Listen to surround sound audio? hmmm. I'm not following you.

I'm still not understanding your point. Do you know something about the first gen fire TV? Please share.
I have a Fire stick. I've been using the shitty 17.1 build for awhile - but all of a sudden dolby passthrough stopped working a few days ago. I also tried upgrading to 17.3 shitty build.. still doesnt work. i dont get static (like i do with the non-shitty build and dolby), just no audio at the start then it starts to play in stereo.

Did amazon push an update to the fire stick that further broke passthrough?

Not sure, but can confirm shitty 17.3 does pass through just fine as that is what I use on my S912 Marshmellow box.

Sometimes this same thing happens to me on my Sony Android 7 TV. If the problem is the same - I fix it by playing some DD/DTS title from stock Video player or Netflix, which are able to passthrough it correctly. Once I do this, next time I open the Kody 17.3 shitty version, the sound is back and with passthrough. This is due to the passthrough hack used in the shitty version of Kody. Please test on your own, I hope it will help you too.

1 setup is using a complete Home Theater setup with 4k AVR and 4K TV with all HDMI connections and another just the box connected to a HD TV.

No problem with passthru whatsoever .. DTS all the way to TrueHD and everything in between.

I also use Netflix and Mi Box can play Ultra 4K content w/ 5.1 Audio without any issues.

Do some isolation tests with other apps like Youtube and Netflix to see if the sync issue is not just Kodi

Hopefully not a dumb question. I am running a mi box with a Sony STRHD720 (HDMI) receiver. I had to send my default box in for a warranty and plugged in the Mi. I have ARC from receiver to the TV and the Mi is connected to the receiver. Passthrough is set. I've got the speaker parameters set good, but I am getting LPCM on 1080p playback that "should" be 5.1. The sound is awful. Something changed when I swapped boxes, yet the settings are identical. Finally, here's my question, I've always had my "boxes" connected to the TV and the TV to the receiver via ARC. This time I have the Mi connected to the receiver instead. What's my best connection set up?

I apologize if this may have been addressed, I am at work and didn't read through all 55 pages
Post a Debug Log when you are back home. That helps ups not to waste time with speculations. Most likely the first post "solves" your problem.

So I think the upgrade to Android 7.0 on my Sony Bravia has broken everything that worked for me in the first post. Even AC3 5.1 passthrough isn't working for me anymore since the update. Settings are as described in the first post. Only picture, no sound ;(

Jep. Whining party. If you can just return the TV or sell it on ebay. If you want to keep it, use the build matching your firmware. The "shitty" version :-(
