I migrated to windows 10 and now I can play the sample Kodi files 4K HDR fine but it's not activating HDR wich is normal on Kodi from what I understand.

Ahh so at this point in time Kodi doesnt support HDR?

I just installed this into my HTPC. It seems to play 4K videos fine in KODI. I haven't tested much, but the few videos I have played without issue.

Hi there,

i just installed 2 Test-Builds:
#724 (1030 GTX support announced)
#820 (the last one)

Suddenly no luck - my gtx 1030 wont decode 4K HEVC. CPU-Load is very high, video is not smooth enough Sad

Are there any settings that i need to activate to make it work? Smile

When im pressing "O" it shows me "Video decodec: ff-hevc (SW)".

Settings/Player Settings/Videos/Allow hardware acceleration - DXVA 2 should be checked and enabled.

Thx a lot for the answer. The problem is, that there is no DXVA 2 in the settings (expert mode). I can check VDPAU and 1-2 other things, but DXVA 2 is not visible. I tried the same in Win10 - the option is here and works perfect.
What im doing wrong? Big Grin

Im trying to activate HEVC-hardware-decoding with my GT 1030 in LibreElec. It is not possible?

My old HTPC with i5-3350P cannot play HEVC-4K-Videos smooth enough, thats why i bought the new gt 1030. First, i tested it in Windows - 4k-HEVC-Videos running smooth. Then i wanted to test it in LibreElec, cuz i thought it would work in the same way.

This thread is for all users of the 1030 - not specifically Linux AFAIK.

I may be mistaken but I think there are limitations with the Linux drivers at the moment (possibly 8-bit only HEVC decode not 10-bit?) and you may need to look at a pre-release build with recent nVidia support over in the Linux forum here - millhouse builds them. That said the recently released LibreElec. 8.1.0 beta has updated nVidia drivers in its change log - so that might work.

DXVA2 is a Windows-specific infrastructure - it is specific to the OS and how Windows GPU drivers work. Linux has a different approach and uses VAAPI and VDPAU (and I think VDPAU is still the nVidia route, not VAAPI which is Intel and more recently AMD?) So just as you see VAAPI and VDPAU options in Linux x86/x64 Kodi builds, you see DXVA2 options in Windows builds.

The GT1030 is designed for 8K(!) HEVC 10bit, so it should be able to do a lazy 4K 400mbps video.
But I can check later for you, the video download is kinda slow here.

If you are HDR capable, please test this one too. Then HEVC 10bit and HEVC 10bit HDR @ 60Hz will be known. Thanks.

I have no HDR monitor/TV here, so I cannot test that part.

The 400mbps jelly video on Win10 + GT1030 plays smooth as predicted.
On Linux it's a crap slideshow but that's all thanks to Nvidia not supporting 10bit in Linux.
