"Add timer" in EPG should open a menu: Record timer or Switch timer
Where the last one should switch to the selected channel e.g. 1 Minute before the Show starts. Then you never miss a show when watching something else.
BTW: Enigma2 hast such a timer
There is a addon for this:
A Timer could then be a recording and or a witch timer. The switch timers would show in "Timers" and in the EPG to have a good overview which timers are set (both, recording and switch ones).
KN switch timers are not visible in "Timers".
What would be the benefit with a (Kodi-included) Switch timer instead of just recording the show?
1. You don't want to use up disk space for a recording (especially relevant if you are running out of space, or your streams are MPEG-2
2. Your backend does not support recording, such IPTVSimple or HDHomeRun
3. you want to watch a live event, but don't want to watch the "pre-game" blabla
4. you are watching TV atm, but not on the channel of your "timed" program together with 1.
