Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows
its essential, there are several issues with MADVR and DS coming in and out of 1080p and 4k, I need to know the following.

1. What resolution is your HTPC desktop in
2. How many displays are attached, just the projector or a monitor as well - resolutions?
3. What resolution is KODI DS gui in?
4. do you have an AVR in the chain, is it 4k/1080p?

i'll cover exclusive and windowed mode when I know how you are connecting.
My Projector is JVC x5900 it is a 4K projector, I use 3840x2160p 60hz for my desktop .. RX560 4GB HDMI out -----> Into Anthem AVM60 HDMI INPUT 1, Anthem AVM60 Output 1  HDMI out -----> Into JVC x5900

This mainly happens when I switch from 4K movies to 1080p movies and then back to 4K .. It says "No Signal" on my Anthem AVM60 and then the screen goes black and I am unable to get out of it unless I restart the HTPC.. It's almost as if the system crashes..

yup i would like to know how mkohman has his hardware "chain" connected as well.

my apology you posted the information above.
No Problem.. This is the chain.. My Projector is JVC x5900 it is a 4K projector, I use 3840x2160p 60hz for my desktop .. RX560 4GB HDMI out -----> Into Anthem AVM60 HDMI INPUT 1, Anthem AVM60 Output 1  HDMI out -----> Into JVC x5900

I use Fullscreen mode in Kodi and I have never used windowed screen .. I do not know if this may be the cause..

Thank you @mclingo please see below:

1 - 3840 x 2160p at 60HZ
2 - Just the projector, however this is the chain of attachment RX560 4GB HDMI out -----> Into Anthem AVM60 HDMI INPUT 1, Anthem AVM60 Output 1  HDMI out -----> Into JVC x5900
3 - Kodi is 3840 x 2160p I have Auto Adjust refresh rate to playback checked (on).
4 - Yes I have the Anthem AVM60 it is originally 1080p Native but it does 4K Pass-through..

mkohman, is HDR engaging (a small box on screen usually flicks up for a second or two saying HDR) on your JVC when you play an HDR 4k UHD movie and have madvr HDR set to auto?
Reply
=11ptok, so your chain is fully 4k.

There are some issues with MADVR coming going back to 4k from 1080p but as far as I knew it only affected 3D. If you play a 3D movie then stop it you'll get a black screen and either your PC will have crashed or you have just lost HDMI handshake. To check this setup an RDP connection from another PC in the house or your mobile phone,  if you can logon then its just HDMI loss.

Getting back your HDMI.

1. Create a script or batch and program this to your remote, this often wakes mine up again.

https://thydzik.com/hdmion-a-solution-to...on-hd-tvs/

2. If this doesnt work turn your AVR off and your display, then run this again, then turn on your AVR, then your display.

=11pt3. If neither works, logon via RDP and reboot your PC.

Prevention.
=11ptFirstly, your PC should never need to go into 1080p mode so why is it?, this suggests to me you’ve not got something setup right in MADVR or KODI DS as everything should be upscaling to 4k, the only time it will go into 1080p mode is when you are playing something in 3D, if this is the case then you have the known bug and the workaround is above, don’t use MADVR refesh rate switching.

Things to check.

  1. KODI DS gui MUST be 3840x2160@60hz (same as desktop)
  2. KODI DS SYSTEM – you MUST use windowed mode in KODI DS.
  3. DO NOT use windowed mode in MADVR
  4. You need FSE for 3D, it should not cause you any issues as long as you don’t use MADVR refresh rate switching.
  5. DIRECT3D11 – this MUST be on but it might cause blown out reds for SDR material, if it doesn’t let me know.

EDIT - ive not played anything in 3D for a while, there looks to be some new issues with it but it could just be the fact ive recently moved to D3D11 decoder in LAV and DS, this seems to produce far more HDMI loss than standard DXVA copy back, disappointing as I can get about 20% more processing out of D3D11

could also be an issue with latest drive but for now drop back to DXVA copy back mode, i'm going to test the last stable driver though.

@Bibio, Nothing flicks up to tell me but yes HDR is working absolutely perfectly.. No issues at all.. [emoji106]

@mclingo I am not using copyback as it doesn't seem to be running 4K smooth.. I had an issue with it being very choppy and the rendering was very high.. so I am now using d3d11 (Native) is that an issue do you think..

I have no idea how to create a batch but I purchased a spoof EDID HDMI gizmo off amazon .. Do you think it will cure the issue ?

Thank you.. I do not care for 3D and will not be watching any 3D movies so that's out of the question..
  1. KODI DS GUI is 3840x2160 (same as desktop) but I didn't know you could choose the hz within Kodi? I check Adjust refresh rate to playback.
  2. KODI DS SYSTEM – I never used windowed mode in KODI DS what effect does this have when enabled please? I will definitely try it tomorrow as I am currently at work, working night shift.
  3. I don't think I am using windowed mode in MadVR but how can I check please, which tab is it under? Thanks.
  4. Sure Thank you...

Hi, if you're desktop is 4K and you are not playing 3D styff then how and why are is your setup moving back and forth from 1080p?, everything should be upscaled to 4k, nothing should be playing in 1080p.

I suspect you've put in some 1080p display modes into MAVR in error, there should have been only 2160p display modes in MADVR.

When you get home follow these steps one at a time, one after the other, stop when you get a fix.

1. In MADVR display modes, remove everything and just put in 2160p23; 2160p25; 2160p30; 2160p50; 2160p60 and nothing else at all. - (((( REASON - there is a bug in MADVR which breaks HDMI HANDSHAKE moving from 108-p back to 4k desktop, up until now i've only seen it with 3D but you may have this issue )))

if this works, thats your fix, if this doesnt work.... continue.

2. go into KODI DS and enable windowed mode in SYSTEM  ((( REASON - without this, sometimes KODI plays in a little box in the corner of the screen, or you get handshake loss sometimes. ))))

if this works, thats your fix, if this doesnt work.... continue.

3. Set LAV to DXVA COPYBACK, Set KODI DS video decoding to DXVA COPY BACK - ((( REASON, i have found a bug with D3d11, it can cause loss of hanshake for 3D playback but its likely that is a problem moving from 1080p back to 4k thats causing it, COPYBACK mode doesnt have this problem however.

If none of this works come back to me.

Thank you so much for your advice.. I am definitely going to try these steps and report back.. I haven't put in any refresh rates within madVR do I still need to put the 2160p refresh rates in as @Warner360 has advised me that this is not necessary...

My desktop stays at 3840 x 2160p but when I play 1080p video upscale to 4K via madvr that's when it looses connection and screen goes black.. I will try to take s video if I can't sort it out. That may be easier and I will show all my settings too.. Thank you
Reply
so it goes black when you are playing, not when you are stopping?, ok that is odd, it suggests you are sending something to your projector it doesnt like, perhaps you havent properly setup 23p modes and you are sending a 444 ful RGB 4k 60hz signal to the projector, it wont be able to show that.

drop your desktop to 4:2:0 10 bit mode until you've got this sorted out, this will ensure max compatibility with your kit and cables.
Reply
Actually it only blacks out after stopping playback.. My desktop is RGB FULL 4.4.4 It has always been like this with previous card and projector... There are mixed thoughts about which setting to have it on but i will definitely have a play with it.. [emoji106]

is madVR reporting the EDID?

if so then its nothing to do with your HDMI signal.
"the fancy optical HDMI cable" lol.. Yes because its a 20m length that was required and had to go through the ceiling and that and the mono price are the only ones that can do 4K 60hz. however this is from the Anthem to the JVC . The issue I have seems to be between the GPU to the Anthem loosing signal at times when I stop video playback and going to a full black screen ..
