Just two things. The desktop is set to 8-bits RGB at 60hz. But what about at 23hz? You are outputting from madVR at 10-bits, so you want the GPU to be set to 10-bits RGB at 23hz. Play a video and return to the GPU control panel while it is playing. Set it to 10-bits RGB. It doesn’t matter what madVR reports.

Second, you have disabled calibration controls, which means madVR defaults to BT.709. Your projector is calibrated to BT.2020, so it must convert from BT.709. You can do this in madVR by selecting this display is already calibrated and setting it to BT.2020. The gamma doesn’t matter as it’s ignored, but try and guess the gamma, too.

Some debanding at low/medium wouldn’t hurt. This won’t remove any image detail and can help with the odd Blu-ray, even if it is uncompressed.
Thank you so much, so let me just confirm... You are saying that I should change my desktop refresh rate to 23hz, is this correct? In doing so this will enable me to select 10Bit with RGB 4:4:4? as it currently only allows me to select 8 bit RGB 4:4:4
-
I will select the "display is calibrated" and choose BT2020? Then I will choose a Gamma of 2.4? Is this also correct?

Thank you so much and would appreciate if you could confirm.. Maybe the black out screens were happening because my desktop was set to 60hz and all movies are at 23 or 24hz so it keeps changing refresh rates when playing and stopping video and possibly getting hung up in between so may actually help keeping it at 23hz? Is yours at 23 hz 10bit RGB 4:4:4? thanks..

Finally my RX560 4GB states recommended PSU 400w , I have a 300W in my HTPC but I am not powering anything other than the motherboard , the 120GB SSD Drive and the RX560 4GB .. Do you think this is sufficient power for the GPU ? May the screen black out be because of thatHuh Thanks for your help..
For responsiveness, you want to set the desktop to 60hz. You could set it to 23hz, but Kodi will be very laggy. It could also be that refresh rates changes are causing this problem, but I wouldn't give it up until I had to. Changing refresh rates from 60hz and back again is normal for a HTPC. You can't choose 10-bits at 60hz because HDMI 2.0 doesn't support this spec. But you can choose 10-bits at 23hz (or 10-bits at 30hz for that matter).

I don't know what your gamma is, but I can guess it is 2.40. This is only important when doing HDR -> SDR conversions.

Don't know anything about the power supply. Your GPU seems to be performing alright.

i use  DSPlayer 17.6 Krypton - build (20171126-b654205)
I don't believe dvbviewer is supported by DSPlayer. PVR support is limited to MediaPortal, ArgusTV and NextPVR. Links are on the first page.

Thank you so much. I will keep it at 60 hz as you say and will briefly change to 23 and 24 hz and set it at 10bit.. If you look at my previous pictures, the JVC info section is showing it at 12Bit , isn't that better? MadVR option is 10bit or above. Would appreciate if you could advise .. thanks..

Also I don't do any HDR to SDR conversion as my projector is HDR and does HDR with MadVR , should I still select the "this display is calibrated" and choose BT2020.? What will this do? Thank you Smile

Hi,

two questions.
1) I installed DsPlayer without PVR addons, how to install them later on, without wiping Kodi Data? Installing nextpvr etc is not possible ...
2) new LAV Filter nightly is out, how to update my lav filter, there is only an .exe file? (without losing my Settings)
Reply
Hi, neither of these questions should be asked here. 1. Ask on the main KODI forum, this is not a specific DS issue, 2. Ask on the LAV forum - however  you just install straight over the top and choose not to reset settings.
Reply
1, ok
2) LAV Filter Comes with the Installation of the Version from KODI WITH DSPlayer from this thread. LAV is not normally installed, it is an addin in this way. So i think my second question is correct in this case.

@netguru

If you are using the 32 bit version of DSplayer, install the latest LAV nightly, then copy the files in
C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x86

and paste the files into

C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\system\players\dsplayer\LAVFilters

If using the 64bit version of Dsplayer, copy the files from C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x64

THX!

i am using 64bit, so i am going to the x64 Folder and copy the files from C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x64.

Are LAV filters always supposed to be installed and copied over the ones that come with DSPLAYER or is this done for a specific reason? Thanks
Reply
@mkohman if you want DSPlayer to have the latest lavfilters, then yes, you install them as normal, then copy them to the kodi directed as explained above.

Just installing them won't have DSPlayer automagically use the newest/latest on your system.

Nevcairiel is always working on lav, so some users like to stay up-to-date.

Oh ok thanks.. Wouldn't it spoil the settings? Do you have to re configure? Cheers

you are not copying any settings, you are copying the filters over.   but it's pretty easy to see if settings got changed, by quickly checking them.  (but no they don't need to be re-configured)

It doesn't matter what madVR reports. It matters what the GPU sends to the display. madVR doesn't know this information. This should be 10-bits. I don't know why your projector says 12-bits, as that is not possible with AMD. Check the output at 23hz. It should be 10-bits.

You want to use this display is already calibrated to select the correct gamut. The gamma value is ignored, so don't worry about it. The gamma is only relevant if you are doing HDR -> SDR conversion. Otherwise, it does nothing. But the choice of gamut will do something. Changing the gamut will cause madVR to convert all BT.709 content to BT.2020 before output. Otherwise, madVR will output BT.709 if calibration controls are disabled, as this is the defaut.
