Hi all,
I'm running a Haswell celeron Pentium (G3450) and keep getting GPU hangs, causing the video playback to freeze and finally kodi to crash.
This is with the current Kodi nightly, on ubuntu 18.04 server. These problems first showed up for me in ubuntu 16.04 when using the HWE stack (any kernel newer than 4.4).
​​​I've tried various options of the i915 module such as fbc/modesetting/rc6/semaphores but the hangs keep coming. Disabling adjust refresh rate also does not help.
I hope somebody here can provide some tips on solving it.

Seems to be a known issue affecting lots of people running this Haswell Celeron. Go to bugs.freedesktop.org and file your personal bugreport, please.

ok, thank you for the confirmation. Do you know if this is a generic Haswell GPU issue, or if I might get lucky with a different haswell chip? (I might be able to swap out the pentium G3450 for a borrowed i7 for testing if this has a chance of success).

 Nope - I shortly googled your error code and found 5+ bugs with different software. Yeah - try with the i7, it should work.

I've been running the i7 4790 for the last two days without a single glitch in video playback. I'm replacing the CPU with an i3 4160 (the i7 has to go back, it also is not playing nice with my picoPSU :-)

So for everybody who runs a Haswell Celeron or Haswell Pentium and experiences video freezing with the following messages in their dmesg:

a CPU upgrade will most likely solve your problems. The other option is to seek help at bugs.freedesktop.org.

FYI I've had good luck with Ubuntu 18.04, Kernel from https://github.com/M-Bab/linux-kernel-amdgpu-binaries, and Kodi nightly on the following platform shown below. 

So far tested Jelly fish too 400Mbps with no issues and 4K content works but of course the TV never flips to HDR mode. Audio passthrough has been good so far with no issues and it seems stable.

Hi all.

I have a Gemini Lake platform (Asrock J4150-ITX) and I have a problem with 4k HEVC 10 playing.
If I play HEVC 10 video a processor use very heavy and lagging. I see the film information (CTRL+O) : ff-hecv (SW) 

If I play 1080p-s video, it's perfect and use to play the vaapi : ff-vaapi (HW)

I installed the programs to the first comment, 18.04 Ubuntu server + Kodi 17.6 (stable build)

And I'm looking for some package versions:

xorg xserver-xorg-legacy 1:7.7
mesa-utils 8.3.1
i965-va-driver 2.1.0
linux-firmware 1.173.1
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99

But If I use the 8.2.5 Libreelec (install pendrive) the 4k HEVC 10 bit Playing perfectly.

I tried to play in Windows and the 4k HEVC 10 bit is run perfectly.(Windows 10 Pro + Latest Intel chipset driver + Kodi 17.6) 

What can be a the problem ?

I alwasy use a stable version. I try to running in kodi 17.6 in Windows and the movie was perfectly.

I think I use an old packages or user error

 Official kodi 17.6 for Linux does NOT contain hevc-10 bit acceleration patches. This is custom patched into LibreELEC. So yes, if you use 18.04 + official kodi 17.6 you won't have acceleration for hevc-10 bit.

No - see the answer above. What you get is 100% expected. HEVC-10 bit support is NOT in 17.6 Linux versions of kodi - only LE picked it from v18 in a preliminary version from some of my "testing for technikaffe.de preview LE builds".
