Kodi 18 is still final and 18.1 is on the way.. where is the dsPlayer Version? Wink

We don't have a developer.  So no new version is going to appear until someone feels like taking on the development of a new version.

Is it perhaps time to throw in the towel and admit that aracnoz isn't going to provide one more build?

If anyone would like to see what DSPlayer is up against, I wrote a guide a long time ago on how to fork a GitHub repository and sync to another repository. The only hitch would be that you would want to sync to the main branch of the official Kodi GitHub after forking DSPlayer, and not back to aracnoz's branch:

How to Clone/Fork a Kodi GitHub Repository

After that, someone would have to attempt to solve any merge conflicts. These are the best current techniques that I know of:

How Do I Git? Three Ways to Solve a Merge Conflict…

Just seeing the amount of merge conflicts involved might offer a hint as to why aracnoz abandoned this thread. The primary problem with fixing any merge conflicts is that any mistakes couldn't be tracked reliably if you happened to delete or move something to the wrong place. I don't know if a successful merge would work or not.

there are maybe mainly two types of people using this, both types want MADVR but only one needs all the other plugin stuff. I just use DS as a media player to give me quick access to all my movies on my server, I dont use any plugins or anything like that so I just dont need a new version at all, perhaps aracnoz is the same.

Those that want the new version can still use an external player so they'll get the best of both works. Perhaps if a MADVR or LAV new version breaks DS arcnoz will maybe tweak it or bring a out a new version, but why bother if it still works for him.

I don't think this project was ever about aracnoz's personal use, although he could possibly still use it himself. There are now DSPlayer users all over the place that I regularly meet on other forums.

This thread is the fourth most viewed in the history of the (active) Kodi forums and the second most viewed thread of any currently active threads, and only by a few hundred views. I don't think aracnoz was trying to be selfish.

I wasnt suggesting he was being selfish in any way,  I'm simply just suggesting that if it doesnt really need to be updated and if he's busy why bother.

I don't know that DSPlayer needs to be updated today, either, but it will someday to maintain support with add-ons and madVR.

I was saying it is hard not to notice that this has been the most actively viewed thread on the Kodi forums over the past year, as it is almost up to two million views. I went through all of the forums one day and sorted them by historical views. It's not like no one is still curious about DSPlayer anymore or not interested in new builds.

Kodi 18.x is better for Live TV, thats the reason

Indeed.  I have always used Kodi as a frontend for Plex with PlexKodiConnect, and recent versions of that addon have already surpassed compatibility for 17.x.  If Plex Media Server updates to stop working with the old version of that addon, I'll be in a pickle.

So, as 18.x DSPlayer version would be great, perhaps we could garner the interest of potential devs by setting up a bounty?  Payable in crypto?  I think we could collect a decent amount as, like you say, the interest in this is still very high.

I reiterate my proposal to institute some sort of "ransom", freely donated, to find a developer that would be up to take the challenge of updating DSPlayer to Kodi 18.

All considered, I think Warner306 would be the best user to organize it, as he has the "standing" here in the forums necessary to be credible when saying "yes, this is it, you deserve the ransom".

I personally would be ready to contribute $50 to such a ransom.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

I think you would have to find a developer before raising any money. I'm not sure where you would post such a ransom that would get a developer's attention. Probably not in this thread.

That developer would have to have a specific educational background and some general interest in Kodi and likely madVR.

I'm good for $25.

Can I get some specifics on the "educational background" needed?  I can put the proposal to some developers from the crypto community but would need to know approximately what I'm talking about.  What languages?  C/C++?  Anything else?

Can we afford madshi?
