With the new margins, the effect is to make the skin feel more cramped and claustrophobic.
Please think on it before recoding your skin.
Have you looked fullscreen on a tv from a normal viewing distance? Because I felt exactly the same way *until* I looked on the tv - somehow the effect is reversed when viewing on a larger screen from further away - the wider margins suddenly feel really cramped, whereas having shorter margins opens up the space. Plus the new shorter margins allow for more padding *between* items, giving a greater sense of room on the screen.
The *new* margins are actually the same margins that I used in AZ1 (80px side, 180px top). Plus it gives a symmetry because there is 80px from the top, 20px of header text, then 80px to the content, with padding between items being half the margin size (40px). Whereas before the side margin was 120px and padding was 30px (space between items being a 1/4 of margin size, leading to a feeling of being cramped). I think the old way looks good on a computer screen because it is a similar design approach to a web page - but that doesn't necessarily translate well to the tv.
There are definitely merits to both approaches, though - hence, my hesitance to simply up and change everything. I will definitely be thinking on it some more before recoding absolutely everything (though, the way the skin is designed means it isn't an excessive amount of work - most of the work is recreating diffuse textures at the new sizes).
