tvOS Jailbreaked Apple TV 4K can't install via dpkg
#1
I have jailbreaked Apple TV 4K. I can install the latest Kodi with ios app signer and Xcode certificate, there is no problem.

But when I try to this https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Ko...n_Apple_TV instructions.
dpkg -i ./kodi.deb
(Reading database ... 9819 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack ./kodi.deb ...
Unpacking org.xbmc.kodi-tvos64 (19.0-0~alpha1) over (19.0-0~alpha1) ...
Setting up org.xbmc.kodi-tvos64 (19.0-0~alpha1) ...
finish:respringing ...

Then Kodi installed on the home screen but when try to open immediately closes. I missing something or what?

Hi,
We are aware of this issue and we fixed it just some days ago with this pull request: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18315
Can you try the last deb file from this list http://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/darwin/tvos/ ?

Also, TopShelf feature is currently broken on jailbroken devices but it will be fixed in some days (you can follow this pull request: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18335)

I tried now also crashed immediately. I can see splash screen opening then crash. I removed the signed Kodi before opening this thread. Then tried deb install the same results. I removed installed deb Kodi. Freshly restart the device and re-jailbreak it without any installed Kodi. Then downloaded the latest nightly (2020-Sep-01) and run dpkg the same result. App icon on the home but not opening.

dpkg -i ./kodi1.deb
Selecting previously unselected package org.xbmc.kodi-tvos64.
(Reading database ... 2302 files and directories currently installed.)

Unpacking org.xbmc.kodi-tvos64 (19.0-0~alpha1) ...

Strange, I will try to reproduce on my device with 2020-Sep-01 build as soon as possible.

If you install Kodi 19 from JoshTV repo on NitoTV app is it working?
Do you run uicache after dpkg (not sure if it's needed).

I tried to completely remove Kodi from my device and install it again with 2020-Sep-01 build --> No problem, everything works.

This is what you can try:

* Backup your settings if needed (Kodi folder in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences)
* Remove your Kodi folder in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences
* Completely remove Kodi (with NitoTV or with dpkg -r org.xbmc.kodi-tvos64
* Install Kodi again with dpkg -i kodi-20200901-4fec8426-master-tvos.deb

Don't know if that can help me but what Jailbreak have you and what device?

Also, if you have a Mac, you can open Console app, select your Apple TV, clear the history, try to open Kodi, select all and copy paste logs on a paste.kodi.tv.

Thank you!

Really strange. I deleted all Kodi folders. Restarted. Re-Jailbreak and tried again but the same happened. I am using Unc0ver Jailbreak with TvOS 13.4.5 on Apple TV 4K. I have nitotv, reprovision, web browser with no problem... Also Joshrepo Kodi matrix no problem... I can access the ssh and file system. So jailbreak works.

Here is logs when trying to open Kodi: https://paste.kodi.tv/ecaxetiweq

Thank you for all this information.

Can you try this one https://jenkins.kodi.tv/job/TVOS/4388/ar...e-tvos.deb ?
In this one TopShelf binary is also fake signed (like kodi binary) ; maybe Unc0ver want this...
I hope this build will works, else I don't know Undecided

Don't know if the jailbreak is the issue.... I'm on checkra1n - Apple TV 4K.

Same... Are you have installed any other package any repo? The reason for the issue is a different way of jailbreak? :/ Are you bought a special PCB cable or golden eye cable for checkrain?

Arf :-(

I will try to find some information on the web...
Don't know if the jailbreak tool cause this issue.

In my case everything works (NitoTV, packages from NitoTV, SSH, ...).

I use the breakout cable (need to open the device on sold wires directly on the hidden USB port pins).

Ok, so if you are agree to continue test this is what we can try:

* As you said, installing Kodi 19 from NitoTV app on JoshTV repo works for you (Kodi start correctly).
* I would like to know if the issue come from our deb file OR from how we manually install a deb file on the device.
* This file (http://joshtv.net/repo/debs/net.joshtv.k...ha2-46.deb) is the one NitoTV download and install when you choose Kodi 19 from NitoTV
* If you are ok, can you try to install this deb file manually with dpkg?
* If this Kodi works it means that the issue come from our deb files,
* If Kodi crash on start, it means that we miss something to perform manual install on Unc0ver jailbroken devices

Thank you!

I downloaded and installed josh deb via dpkg. And it's worked! Installed and opening with no problem. So the problem is in the official deb files...

xml:
dpkg -i net.joshtv.kodimatrixalpha2-46.deb
Selecting previously unselected package net.joshtv.kodimatrix.
(Reading database ... 2302 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack net.joshtv.kodimatrixalpha2-46.deb ...
Unpacking net.joshtv.kodimatrix (19.0-0~alpha2-46) ...
Setting up net.joshtv.kodimatrix (19.0-0~alpha2-46) ...

Installation complete!

Ok thank you very munch for your test.
I will try to prepare another deb later today in order to try to understand what we are doing wrong with unc0ver.

Can you try this one? https://we.tl/t-IRTYGorDuG

I builded it with my own certificate, so all binaries should be real signed with my certificate EXCEPT the main Kodi binary that I have fake signed with ldid utility.
It seems that JoshTV deb file is exactly like that (if I don't miss anything....).

Thank you very munch for your help finding what is wrong!

PS: Because this version do not use official Kodi bundle id (org.xbmc.kodi-tvos) but mine (fr.cecchetto.kodi-tvos) you will maybe need to remove other Kodi installation before, dpkg will tell you if needed

Edit: It seems that unc0ver works differently than other jailbreak (see https://github.com/pwn20wndstuff/Undecimus/issues/339 or https://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comme...xecutable/), If deb file from JoshTV works on unc0ver we need to find the correct fake-signing combination...
