Kodi 17.7 DSPlayer x64 (2020 build)

Are you tone mapping to SDR or Tone mapping and outputing as HDR, Or just bypassing and sending hdr signals straight to tv, Maybe try testing the different options.

Maybe, I passthrough HDR information straight to my projector with madvr. Disabling this does fix it but I also lose HDR on my projector so It's the same as playing SDR at that point and the picture get's quite lifeless I noticed...

I tried googling but I did not find any information for it. The only thing I find is people having weird colors when they HDR playback...

I've not bothered using HDR for ages, I untick it in MADVR, I see no real difference as my TV is only 400 nits max, try these settings in this screen shot:

https://1drv.ms/i/s!AgvFafeelEBiv-Rluc_G...w?e=wIx4pT

make sure you also have:

native display set to 10bit or higher
all relevant display modes se, at least:   2160p23, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p30, 2160p50, 2160p59, 2160p60
In rendering have delay playback until render q full turned on as well as use DIRECT3d 11 for presentation - FSE disabled
CPUQ 16, GPU8 (change nothing else in rendering)

set your GP to anything other than 4:4:4 FULL RGB just in case you have bandwidth issues somewhere in your system / cabling as a test. I tend to use 4:4:4 LIMTED

make sure your LAV filters are up to date and correctly configured to be used in KODI and they are not using the local copy with the install which are ancient.

Cant really think of anything else to try, does HDR work find using the stock latest version of KODI 20?, works fine on mine.

Most of these settings were already set but like I said. There is no problem with video playback at all, the only thing is my GUI is totally trashed after any HDR playback. This was never the case.

When Kodi is out of focus the colors go back to normal until I click back on the Kodi window. Also running in not full screen windowed brings back the correct colors.

Have you actually tried creating a new KodiDS portable build With a wiped version of MadVR?

Now that Kodi 21 is almost here, I feel like it's time to move on from 17.* w/ DSPlayer.  The ideal solution would, of course, be DSPlayer on a more recent build, but that has not yet happened.  I have therefore been testing using an external player (MPC-BE w/madVR) for the last week or so with Omega RC1.  I have to say, once everything is set up, it is almost as seamless as DSPlayer.

I am mostly posting this to ask a question to you guys that have also made this change.  How do you track in progress status?  Apart from the OSD, that is really the only thing that I have lost by moving to Kodi 21.  I am aware of playcountminimumtime in playercorefactory.xml, but this only tracks if an item has been fully watched or not.

What would be required for Kodi to be sent the in progress information from an external player?  I feel like this is something that could be scripted, but I don't know where to start.

In MPC-BE settings check Keep History of Recently Opened Files and Remember DVD and File position under Player setting.  Subsequent starts of the external player(s) will resume from where you last left off for various titles.  When you use the internal Kodi VideoPlayer, it has it's own history and prompts if you want to resume playback from where you last left off.  Kodi doesn't retain that history for different external players afaik.  That data retention is the job of the external player(s).

Yes, letting MPC-BE keep track of in progress files is one option of keeping track of your progress.  However, this is an inelegant solution.  It requires some memorization of what you have been watching within Kodi rather than having the information synced back.  A lot of useful widgets in Kodi are unavailable as they rely on in progress/up next status.

These are the only options I can see for my setup at the moment:

1) Set playcountminimumtime to an unreasonably high number so that watched status is only set manually in Kodi.  I may have to make do with this.
2) Set playcountminimumtime to a reasonable number (10 minutes etc) but I will occasionally forget that there's content half-watched (as it's marked watched in Kodi).

The point of my original post is mostly to find out if the gurus in this thread who have migrated on from 17.* have a more elegant solution for syncing in progress content back to Kodi.

Why would you need to change if you're using Madvr as All the important stuff is in there,  what are you gaining by using a later version exactly everything just seems to work for me still. I've always had problems with external players in the past they kind of work but you end up with black screens and freezing and crashing and messing about it's better when it's baked in. I'll continue using this until Microsoft somehow break it with Windows 11 or 12

Well, it's not only madVR that's "in there", right?  It's the obsolete, no longer supported addons and skins.  I have already had to find hacky, ugly ways around certain filter problems with DSPlayer in the last few years.  I guess the main issue that is causing me to dump DSPlayer was the GUI flickering when paused; it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Having more modern nicer looking skins, addons which are actually supported with new features implemented, easily swapping filters/renders, etc, is probably worth losing the in progress status.  It was a good run.

Weird?  I've been using external players with madVR, etc. for 10+ yrs.  Never had any of the problems you say you've always had... as if anyone reading this should expect your insight as fact.  Tbh, I've never encountered any problem at all throughout every official state-of-the-art build of everything.

Currently I'm using 3 MPC-BE players, 1 MPC-HC player and of course the Kodi internal VideoPlayer - each tuned for unique playback situations and each is automatically deployed simply by pressing play on any title in the Kodi libraries returning to Kodi in focus ready for action once playback ends.  I consider all of it seamless perfection.  Fwiw, using Windows 11 24H2 Kodi v21 (v22 soon) and all still going strong with zero problems because it's all 100% reliable.  I understand how hard it is to teach old dogs new tricks though.  Carry on...

If you have been using external Players and you're happy with them why are you using this build then?

I would never use this build or any other unofficial build.  Way too many things unable to do and nothing an official build can't already do.  I think my post and my signature reveal clearly what I use but maybe you missed that.

@axbmcuser in the original DSPlayer thread, tiben20 has stated he will try to update DSPlayer to a new Kodi version.

Seeing as you worked on a bit of code here, maybe it would be nice if you could share your changes with him. I don't remember if you made the source available.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

@ashlar

Good to hear that. :-)

Will have a look in regards to the source code question when i got the time.
Happy to share any of the misc improvements besides being fully aware that they won't be needed for most likely quite some time during the extensive ground work on the rewrite of DSPlayer itself.

I'll surely keep an eye out on tiben20's github!  Music

I'm not really rewriting dsplayer. Im updating it to main branch. With all the change in kodi over the years it was easier to do it manually. A ton of stuff changed place in the code. A lot of code as been deprecated with the current vc++ version used with kodi so i need to find alternative to make it work.
